I love portabella mushrooms! As of yet, I haven't eaten any of the chanterelle variety.
I know you have to be very careful when gathering them from the wild though!
So, I guess I'll continue making my selections from the local grocery! :)

I've been eating dandelions since I was a kid, probably shouldn't have, but the greens were great! As an adult, I now pay (alot) for them (field greens blend in the store). I do recommend them, much better than plain lettuce. Or you could do as my gram did, just pick them out of the back yard!! (Hint: use a light dressing or even just oil and vinegar.)

Well BC I picked about 7 pounds our prices here are good because of availability but it's not uncommon to see them at 10 -16 dollars a pound. Not a bad days haul. i like them in soup on toast but always cook my mushrooms and don't advise eating any raw even those from a store. Cooking can decrease you chances of poisoning greatly. Also many commercial mushrooms are grown in "treated" waste The magic kind vary. The ones featured in your video are Amanitas. They are considered poisonous probably because they are also hallucinogenic . One story I read was that the reindeer have been known to attack laplanders peeing in the snow because the drug is concentrated in urine.The reverse was mentioned in the video. The dose is key, too much and you will be poisoned. Some like death caps will kill you by destroying your liver. I stay away from white, (many deadly varieties are white) and LBMs or little brown mushrooms containing among them, deadly gallerina, a mushroom that will kill you with a small bites volume.They all grow on the ranch and some even kill you with what's called the "seeping sludge" that's where all your mucous membranes excrete at once and you drown in your own fluids. Not Pretty. However mushrooms in general can be extremely health giving and Reishi or Ling ZI as the chinese call it. is known as the mushroom of life for its anti toxin, anti cancer powers. Many others have restorative and healthy effects on the brain, liver and internal organs. I eat them because I'm crazy for the taste and texture especially when just picked and cooked that day. The mushroom itself is only the fruiting body of the shroom. The mycellium, could be spelled incorrectly,is the actual living part which resides either in the log, field, or substrate and shoots up the shrooms after rain. I've read where one was measured at 100 acres. Now thats amazing a living thing being that big. anyway time to get out and hunt for more before the next round of rain. Thanks for the vids. Since visiting CA, I've been keeping up with Four Vines on Facebook! I noticed that "Farmstand Forty-Six" has a tasty menu available! The "Mushroom Stuffed Roasted Eggplant" sounds like something I would like. For Christmas I'm preparing a meatless Lasagna - substituting eggplant, mushrooms and zucchini! :)
Regarding how some commercial varieties of mushrooms are grown, all I gotta say is "eewwww"! Maybe I need to learn more about harvesting them from the wild in a more natural habitat?! :) But, you're not the first I've heard add caution to the possibilities of getting hold of the wrong types of 'shrooms. Makes me think about the first individuals who discovered just how deadly some varieties can be? Just the term alone - "seeping sludge" - sounds terrible!
And, you're welcome regarding the videos! I learn alot just by visiting here - reading through the various posts. I must admit though to oftentimes having to consult a dictionary or do a search via YouTube or the 'net when reading through some of your posts! You have definitely served as a means for increasing my vocabulary and general knowledge in many areas! :)

Geez, I'm beginning to wonder if I should rethink and adjust my vacation plans for next summer?!
I had originally wanted to attend the Rose Festival and Dragon Boat races in Portland, Oregon - maybe head southward down the coastline after that?!
I guess as long as the "monster" stays underground I'll be OK though?!
Wonder if that has anything to do with the earthquakes out in that part of the country?! :)

Well indeed that monster has far outgrown the one i was talking about. Though to the naked eye you'd never know it was there. Great plot for a biological thriller. thanks for the info. love on ya Stewart
