1. Not only did France fail to advance from group play, they failed to score one single goal! Oh la la, c'est mal!

2. I get the impression from Michael Davies' columns that Englanders like Argentina losing. Apperently there's some history between them. Perhaps someone can expound upon this for me.

3. Question for the resident Scotsmen: do Scots typically root for England?

4. Thinking of Scotland and England and Wales having different teams makes me wonder if Puerto Rico has its own team.

5. I must say that hearing how the U.S. team is P.O.ing a lot of people simply by not losing is kinda fun. Not that having our country P.O. people is usually a good thing, but these people hold some ugly attitudes toward my country, so I'd say this case is certainly an exception.

6. I've just discovered that Merriam-Webster Online has included the term "soccer mom".

7. Two points for anyone who can tell me where the word "soccer" comes from.

8. Reason to hope the U.S. and South Korea both win their final games in group play: there's a possibility that if they both lose, the decision as to which team moves on could be determined by a drawing. That scenario just has controversy and scandal written all over it.
