At the funeral Harry tells Peter that he's his only family, and that Spiderman will pay. (Can you say sequel?)

Well duh! Of course there will be a sequel! I'm not sure I want the villian in the second movie to be another Green Goblin, though. I'm kinda hoping for Doctor Octopus. Then again, Harry could make a deal with Ock to help him develop a Green Goblin suit for him, or he could pay Ock to take out Spidey...there are possibilities...

MJ tells Peter that she loves him, but he can't say it back because he realizes that if he does she could get hurt again, and he doesn't want that to happen.

You know, Roger Ebert seemed to have a different idea as to why Peter said he only wanted to be friends: extreme social paralysis on his part. When I watched the movie, I interpreted things the same way you did, DS. This just another reason to not trust Ebert's assessment of comic book movies.
