As it tends to be the politicians and religious leaders (to differening proportions) who define the society we live in, it's a self fulfilling loop to assume that

I would also add that in many stereotypical but still valid, scenarios the family unit is still frequently dominated by the mother figure in internal matters, the father being more repsonsible for external matters.

Again, almost ironically this can commonly be found in large scale families such as those condoned by the Catholic faith, and also in Judaism (And as a practicing catholic, who lived and worked for five years in one of the heaviest concentrations of Jewish in the Western World (Muswell Hill in London) I can attest to both sides.

There's also the old saw that women allow men to deal with the politics so they can get on with the real work!

I'd prefer to do it, not by being negative about what was, but about being positive about what is and can be. About stressing the need for equity as a given, not a goal. By putting forward an inspiring concept which can be appreciated as a logical solution by both genders.
