Subject: nemsis Prime, RM-11 Beast Convoy

Beast Convoy:

There are a lot of things I like about this toy. It manages to resemble the original toy a little better than Beast Megatron did, for one. Same poseability, of course. The head has a mouth, and the mace chamber/cannon arm of the original were dropped in favor of opening hatches with show-accurate cannons that are spring-loaded to pop up.

The hands are opened, with pegs in the palms for the weapons. Imagine a Binaltech hand without moving fingers. Three weapons, two swords and the same launcher included with Convoy and Beast Megatron.

The shoudler cannon sstill pop up, albeit with no launchers. There are also no covers, so the cannons can be seen even when stowed. The "butt-plate" is hinged to fold up, partly to help unfold the cannons, and to store the swords. There are also jet thrusters sculpted onto the back.

Transformation features one minor change- the face is on a gear which, in theory, rotates it out when you move the head upward. In practice, the gear's aren't perfect. Mine may even be off somewhat. Still, a nice idea.

As with Megatron, details are simplified somewhat. Some pics I saw of the toy made the gorilla face look bad but it actally looks okay in person. The only major change being that the hands are open, of course. Oh, and no goofy smirk on the face.

However, their decision to use only one toe piece mold has a bad drawback... the big toe sits center. As you can imagine, this looks really weird.

There is an Autobot symbol on the left shoulder.

Verdict: easily worth the $25 I paid for it.

...remembers the bootleg mini BW Primal I used to own... and yes, this is much cooler than that ever was.

Nemesis Prime:

The first domestic US release of the Big Convoy mold arrives as a Target exclusive recolor. Target previously received the US release of Magmatron.

The colors are based on Armada Nemesis Prime, while keeping hints of Big Convoy at the same time. Lots of black, yes, but also lots of faded yellow, red, and blue trim.

Mammoth mode is solid black with a silver brushing along the bottom, red eyes, and faded yellow tusks with bloody tips. Robot mode turns a lot of red to black and white to faded yellow.

According to the bio(the only TFU toy to get a bio on it sbox) he's a twisted clone of Optimus Prime pulled out of time. though they never say WHICH Optimus Prime, given the multiverse nature of Universe. Most likely of Big Convoy himself.

Colors are dark, but colorful. This stands out quite a bit from Black Big Convoy.

Plastic quality is excellent, though they also used a lot of paint to color pieces, specifically the feet, right forearm, and other minor bits. He can't hold the tonfas as a result. This paint makes pieces feel like a softer rubbery material at first touch.

The rubber strip running up the trunk is much softer than the one in Big Convoy, so the trunk gimmick works much easier.

The toy is a Decepticon but has no such markings, not even a painted spark crytal that most of Universe gets.

The matrix is officially the Dead Matrix, a pure evil parallel to the Matrix of Leadership. His chest is the Dead Matrix Annex(though the package uses the two interchangeably). The attack mammoth mdoe is Devastation Mode. They made it quite clear this guy is pure evil. The Dead Matrix is glossy black with a red center. The red piece in mine has an air bubble dead center which looks really nice, even as an accident.

It's a $20 toy and a nice recolor. Big Convoy is also becoming expensive these days(though you can get the Sonokong release for about $20, though I imagine some people might not be buying the Sonokong stuff... I don't know why. I own the Sonokong BC and the quality is identical). Hopefully, it may lead to more Japanese molds hitting the US. Because we can only take so many repaints of the Car Robots cars and BM Blackarachnia.

Incidentally, this toy isn't supposed to be out until their Christmas layout starts... 10,000 are currently in Target warehouses. However, 5,000 shipped early. But stores are not putting them on shelves if they don't specifically have ii in the sales floor system for them. So they may sit in the back room. The DPCI # for the toy is 087-06-0358. Take this to the guest service desk. If they have it in the back, they will get it for you.
