Like you, we found out almost 2 yrs ago, that our 8 yr old then, was Dyslexic.
It was very hard initially for me particularly, but I have come to understand Dyslexia and my 10 yr old better. We have good days and bad days but i only want to give him the best support I can for now to encourage him to do better.
And being Christians ourselves, we can trully say that God has seen us through these tough times. In a way too, it was kinda good to know what we had to do to help our kid. I recently spoke with someone (who is also a dyslexic, but an adult) who told me that just because my kid was having issues with reading and spelling, it didnt mean he was not smart at all. My kid is very intelligent and loves school ( science and math). My kid just doesn`t do well in reading and writing (including spelling) so that means that he will have to work harder at reading and writing and that I will have to positively support him...I am encouraged by that and will work with my kid.

And I would like to encourage you too.....Your child is a gift from God and he will see you all through this situation....Keep the faith!
