I have had some good results with kids with ADD and focus problems on The Listening Program {TLP} Check out the website. It is an auditory processing programme that retrains the brain to process sound effectively.
But on the whole I find children in a 1 to 1 situation do not really zone out. It may be as the previous answer suggested and this child needs more changes of activities during the session and a more multi-sensory approach.
