Yur state has a parent resource center to guide you. My child has an IEP and the independent evaluation as well as assessment results , etc. drives his educational plan. I would call your state board of education for advice and guidance as well as resources. My child's learning takes place during the school day. The school did pay for tutoring, assistive technology, etc. my concern for you is the school resistance. That is a bigger problem. Yes, IDEA and NCLB can get them to comply. Look up "child find" and special education. Yes, I would get an advocate but remember that it is a collaborative relationship with the school system that will get the services that your child needs. Do some creative stuff at home--but don't overwhelm your child. Lexia web enabled programs can supplement her education at home. It is worth the money and will fill I some of the gaps that the school is missing. As my child became older, my role was to support his school work--extrariccular activities are important for him. the school--though it took me hiring an advocate--did their job.
