I am a science teacher with dyslexia who is now teaching in a secondary school and many of my classes contain dyslexic children. My dyslexia is not too severe and I learnt my weaknesses early in life and put systems in place to try and correct them such as writing lists for all the tasks I need to do, keeping a diary, having a calculator to hand and a dictionary at all times. I find that suffering from dyslexia myself does help me when teaching others with the condition as I think I am able to present information in a more acceptable format and I utilise a multi-sensory approach as much as possible as I also try and make boring scientific facts memorable with lost of daft sayings and shocking stories. A lot of the children I teach though are very depressed about the effect their condition has on things like exam results and building self esteem is very important and I try to do this by providing one-to-one attention where possible. I don't think that mainstream schools though offer much support I have to say
