Hi
My name is Shannon and my 6 yr old son has speech problems too. He is almost done with his first yr of kindergarden and has only learned 4 letters. No numbers. I have had an IEP from the school so he would get help before school started. He has 3 different teachers taking him out of class trying to help him and they are at a loss. They wanted me to send him to Developmental specialists. They think it might be an auditory problem. He passed his hearing test but they have ATP test they do. It's the way they hear sounds are different. I have heard in the last two weeks no one does the test on kids under 8. I finally found one that does it on 6 yrs olds. I will find out next friday if this is it. They wanted me to send him to a child neaurologist but there is a 6mth to 18mth waiting list. Ruling out dyslexia. It sucks waiting to see. I also found an optomologist that does vision therapy to test for dyslexia, so I have that set up for May. Anyways hope this helps. I would have the school test him to, but only texas will test for dyslexia and i live in Arkansas. At least if there is a problem you can get assistance.
