Your son could have as many hours as possible of a pull-out program. But if it's not the right program it is not going to work. Trust me, I have 3 dyslexic children.
He needs a Orton-Gillingham, multi-sensory, explicit, systematic phonics program. Like the Wilson program, Lindamood-Bell, Barton Reading and Spelling program. Google these programs to get more information. If your in the US the law says they need to use a scientifically proven, researched-based program; one example is "Language!" that's a program that some schools have implemented. Each program needs to be taught by a highly qualified teacher. Look up Wright's Law, there's tons of information there.
Also, the answer that posted before me is wrong. All children do not eventually catch up. You've got to get him some intense intervention to close the gap. Good Luck!
