Welcome to our board. I can identify with your situation growing up. Only in my house it was one violent drunk and one very controlling (though she meant well) mother. It definitely leaves scars that don't go away. Add to that a condescending husband who lies and cheats and walks out on his family and then tries to control everything afterwards. Thankfully, none of these really bother me that much anymore. My dad hardly seems like the same man who struck terror in the hearts of his family. Now at 77, he isn't very scary at all. He's become almost feeble and he's mellowed a lot. My mom is almost 66 and she's also mellowed some and I've also learned to let a lot of her "advice" go in one ear and out the other. It appeases her to think you're listening and then we just do whatever we were going to anyway...it helps that we don't live together :) As for the ex, who even cares anyway? Not important. Still there are some lingering scars but not as visible as they used to be.

You're very welcome to talk about whatever is on your mind and I hope you'll find the support you are looking for. There are some nice people here.

Take care,
Sandy
