Subject: WHAT is it with people? (I'm on a soapbox here)

I have a friend in Topeka, a city not far from here, and the friendship is in serious jeapordy. Why??
This man, from my old college days, claims he has fibromyalgia and depression and is filing for disability.
Do I have a problem with this? Yes! Why?
1) When he talks of depression and fibromyalgia,
I have never once seen pain or discomfort in his eyes, only this joking, almost giddy happiness that his doctor thinks he doesn't have the capabilties to work anymore. It's like this, oh boy, look at me, see? I have a problem, I don't have to work anymore!

2)He brags about sleeping 12 hours a day and that the SRS took pity on him and gave him food stamps, even though he's got three to four other friends there who transport him and come running to his rescue whenever he needs anything, yet again, when I've tried to phone chat with him, think there's anything negative or that he is in actual pain, that he's upset about his situation? Nope, almost this near bragging factor that "I" have fibromyalgia, "I" have depression,
my doctor says "I" can't work anymore, as if he should be put on some kind of freaking pedastal!

Here we are, so many of us here dealing with our depression and our problems, trying to manage our crises, a lot of you with children, and we forge onward, take our lumps, struggle and pull ourselves out of bed even through the days where I, as many of you must feel sometimes, it's a real battle to get out of bed and start the day!

And there are many truly suffering who should be on disability so they can get help and be assisted from truly crashing and who are in pain, not bragging or being gleeful like filing for disability is some kind of "reward" or some kind of throw it in someone's face
aspect of not having to work hard for a living anymore.
I am really angry about this.

Several of my former co-workers are sitting home on their butts collecting unemployment, they brag about it when they come in to visit sometimes and it just burns me. Last time I worked at a restaurant that closed without notice, I financially crashed because it takes a few weeks for the unemployment to kick in and then while my former co-workers sat on their butts and bragged about it, I went out and got a job that didn't work, a fast food restaurant where I made errors on the cash register, where did I end up? In a courtroom type setting in the job service center battling my arrogant former boss saying hey, I got out and found work, I tried, it didn't work! Atleast I'm trying here!
The unemployment attorney wasted no time in making sure I started getting unemployment, but even then, I went out and found more work.

At the front desk, I see so many people come in, apply,
then not show up for orientation, or constantly complain because the work is hard. What do they want, mommies or nannies to take them by the hand down the easy road in life, playpens and rattles with minimal effort to life a finger?? Work, most any kind, is hard work! Sometimes it's all I can physically do not to reach out my hand and slap the freckles right off some arrogant, childish, "oh woe is me, I have to work for a living" faces!! There's a difference between people in pain and having a hard time and lazy people who don't want to work. Sometimes I wish I was invisible, I swear I'd walk around with a paddle and whack some lazy butts!!

What is it with people???

Ok, will get off my soapbox now.
Thanks for listening,
Bill
