Evil has a face, and yes a name. Mythios. Becca laid upon her mat within what she thought to be the safety of the Chateau.A dark cloud moved through the darkness, and as it neared her balcony, if anyone had been watching the cloud could now been seen more clearly. And it was not a cloud at all, but a swarm. A thick veil of insects, that within a the flutter of a single heart beat, engulfed Becca as she slept. Terror, and torment was within her as she was painfully awoke. Breath cut off as her throat was now filled with the nasty demonic bugs. Bright white seering pain filled her chest. Lungs screaming in vain silence for air. Then for her all went black. Consumed. Her bed now lay empty, vacant and cold. The swarm now moved with intent across the clouded sky, on route to the castle of Mythios. Who had sent his demonic swarming army out in search of his prize. Becca had no clue as to what was happening, only blackness filled her mind now. But soon she would awake within the stone cold walls of Mythios' castle. And when she did, she would wish for death to come take her, for what was instore for her now, was far worse then death. She would know in her heart that Valmont would care for sweet Mel, and if not, Mel would indeed find suitable replacement. But for now, Becca lay upon a cold slab of marble, the swarm had left their mark upon her body and her soul. Both now char black. Mythios had great plans for this woman. She would pray for death time and time again, and also for her family left behind. Mythios seemed to be riveled only by Satan himself. Poor Becca. May God have mercy upon her soul.

It is oft times said that life is stranger then fiction. And this is such a time. Becca has become engaged, to the very man that once placed a ko'lar round her slender throat. And now there is this new women that others see, Becca, herself too, sees a different reflection staring back at her from the looking glass. All grown up, some might say. But in this joy does lie a patch of darkness. On the day she became betrothed, there were no family members to tell of this joyous news. Nessa has been gone for so very long, Becca fears she might never see her again. Burgoo has been hard to track down as well. But Gaston did inform her just today that Burgoo has returned from a trip from afar. She will be ever so pleased to see him. And of course she also thought of Cricket. But she had no clue as to where that woman was. The Roost was closed down and no forwarding address was given, nor has there been word from her as to her where abouts. It seemed to Becca that Cricket made no attempt to keep any line of communication open, and in this Becca has had to assume Cricket no longer cared about her, or mayhaps even far worse, to go as far as to think Cricket loathed her now, what other reason could there be for such lack of communication. This, Becca has been wrestling with for quite some time. But with the love she felt for Valmont now, it did ease the heartache somewhat, and for this she is grateful. Valmont and Mel, her slave have been her emotional support for quite some time now, and as the day of the wedding grows near? Becca needs as much support as she cane get. The nervous little mouse, is peeking out from behind her iron curtain once more. Not that Becca is worried about making the wrong choice of a husband, no not at all, just a committment as this is one that weighs heavy on a woman's mind. Becca had thought, but only briefly, to seek council from her real mother, but that of course would be sheer folly, and Becca dropped the thought in an instant. She had hoped that Nessa would aid her in the many tasks of a wedding, not to mention finding a gown, but it looks like this may not occur. Often thoughts returned to Cricket, but the thought once more was left, without knowing where she was, or even if Becca would be recieved warmly or not. And so life is charging on as it always does. And Becca once again, smiles as she faces the world, with a new lease on life.

Truth was stranger than fiction.
Cricket had never left the roost..and anyone that knew her knew that.
No missives came from Becca..and since the day that Crickets husband had so cruelly betrayed her, and ousted her from the family she wanted so badly..Becca had not said one word to Cricket.
Nothing. Loss..and then silence of her friends.
Becca stayed by Burgoos side through it all.
Cricket..was left to whatever fate had in store for her.

"In the end, we remember not the words of our enemies..but the Silence, of our friends"

Crickets life went on, despite her loss..and never once did she hear from the woman she had shown love, compassion, and given freedom and confidence to.

How very sad truth was.

The sun forced it's way through her open window. Slender digits reached up and lightly flicked away a piece of firy hair that just didn't like to stay in place, even when she slept. She let a smile take over those lips as she glanced to the spot next to her. No Becca. She knew she wouldn't be there, she had always gotten up eairler than her, she just had to look, she always had to look.
She arose from the bed, clutching the sheet to her breast as she went to the closet, and pulled a simple yellow sundress, dropped the sheet, and put it over her head, pulled it down and tied the strings behind her back. Those firy locks pulled into a loose pony tail. She turned, walked out the bedroom door, and down the stairs, past the living room and in the kitchen. Her hand graced the door knob as she twisted, and walked out into the warm morning, she could taste the heat upon those lips as she walked into the field that lay in the back of the house, there were many flowers. Mel loved flowers, they were just beautiful. She picked a few, for her Mistress of course as she walked back in through the kitchen, Shut the door and heard her name. Becca was calling. She held the flowers in her hand as she made her way into the living room. Becca sitting on the sofa, smiling. She knelt infront of her...paying her respects as Becca's hand graced those locks. She let that smile come upon those lips as she glanced to her hand, patting her lap. Not a moment later, Mel was upon that lap, snuggling softly and quietly. Becca's hand lightly moving in and out through those locks, she let her head rest upon her shoulder, and soon drifted off for a nap. A typical day.

So much was changing for this once seemingly fragile flower. Not only has she her freedom? But now Becca has a slave of her own, Melanie. A hot blooded firey viven, that has brought Becca many hours of delight. And although Mel is a fiesty sort, she is also very loyal, diligent and eager to please. The sweet lil red head has shown Becca a great deal. Not only how a faithful slave is like a great treasure, but how it isn't always so easy to be a Mistress, or Master. Which oft times makes Becca's thinking turn to Valmont. He was in his own right a wonderful glorious Master to her. But as time went on, she became his friend and companion. And when he was unable to be there for her, she was truly lost. Literally. And well the rest as they say is history. But there turns a new page in the saga between Valmont and Becca. Mr. Leonias has now taken on a new charge in life. Captain, aboard sea going vessel. Twice is the count now that Becca has set sail upon his ship, albeit, she was not informed that she would be leaving when it occured. But that is neither here nor there. Becca is considering taking a station upon his ship, meerly on part time basis. For with her new found freedom, she longs for adventure. And at times she grows lonely in want of her family. Mythios has once more sent a missive to her, again he bid her to come. And again she has turned him down. The second missive was less then cordial, once he was turned down. And now Becca has to wonder what another rejection of his invitation will bring. Mythios is not one to be angered, of this Becca is well aware.
Becca has not seen nor heard from Nessa in many many weeks now, and as the days roll on, she becomes more and more concerned. Her heart does ache for Nessa. Burgoo too has oft times spoke of his longing for her. Since the leaving of Cricket, it would seem the family has become more sparce, and this regretfully so, makes Becca heavy hearted.
So many turns, and twists in this young woman's life, and she takes them on with open arms, embracing life as she would a lover, with passion and eagerness. She has yet to learn of her father's true identity, but was visited by her true mother. The encounter left Becca less then pleased. Her mother was an arrogant, agressive seemingly black hearted shrew. And Becca could now understand why her adoptive parents, did not want her in contact with that evil temptress. So many puzzle pieces coming to lay out, now forming the picture that is to be Becca's life.

Cricket had given Becca the freedom that allowed her so much adventure now. Cricket had given the once shy little slave, confidence, and turned her in the right direction.
It was tragically sad, now, that Rebecca had forgotten Cricket was even alive.
She sent her no missives..no word came..no nothing..it was as if the entire household that had once professed to be her family, was now very happy to just look the other way, blindly following Burgoos choice of brutally and coldly ousting Cricket.
Cricket wondered why..wondered how such hard edged coldness could come from them..but such was the fate..and life..not quite as wonderful as Beccas..went on.
...and where was once love..hatred grew.

Becca had just returned to the Chateau, when Gaston held a scroll out towards her. She stared for a long moment at the scroll, then lifted her gaze, and stared at Gaston. No words were exchanged but much was said between the two. Gaston's hand never wavered holding out the scroll. Finally Becca took it from him with an uncertainy, her step not as light as she climbed the stairs and entered her room, turning, scroll in hand she softly shut the door. Her room stood bare, save for a soft mat upon the floor. Gaston had told her the fabrics, and furniture that Nessa had ordered had arrived weeks ago. But Becca would not hear of it, she would decorate her room with Nessa, and that would be that. And when Nessa was up to it, she would ask. She slid the slippers from her feet, and lowered to her knees upon the mat, she held the scroll in her hand for a long just staring at it. She tried to imagine what Mythios would want of her, but she did know one thing for certain, there would be no way of getting around it, if he wanted her to know something, she would. A deep breath drawn in and held, then slowly released she broke the wax seal, and unscrolled the scroll. As she remembered from the last time, no words could be seen until she stared at it and watched them appear. The missive read. "My dear child Rebecca~" She arched a brow at how chatty and friendly that sounded coming from the likes of him, a soft shake of her head, and she read on. "I am writing to say, that I had enjoyed your visit. I spend so much time alone and at work, that I oft times forget what being social means to me. Your friendly nature and quick wit really eased a loneliness that I had been ignoring in myself. I would like for you to come for another visit. I understand you have family to consider, so I leave the time up to you, but please consider my offer. I will be more then happy to discuss some of the things we did not address the last time you were here. I have realized you are apt to handle much of what I have to say, in reguards to your parents. I await word from you my dear, as to when to expect your next visit." Becca's mouth hung open as she read. and it was then penned, "Warm reguards~ Mythios" Suddenly Becca was scrambling off her mat and heading to her balcony, remembering the last missive that turned into horrid spiders, and then burst into flame. But as her feet just hit the bare floor the words swirled and the the scroll changed, this time however it turned into dozens of brilliantly colored butterflys. Becca gasped and chuckled as they made flight out the open door, after swirling round her head in a fluttery dance. She held that smile on her lips for the rest of the day. It would seem as a wise person once said, that when one door shuts, another doth open. Life will go on for Becca, ever changing....but that is how life is. She felt things were going to change for the better, and if she could help it, they would be.

As the sun was slowly sinking behind those forbidding mountains she gazed at, the riderless coach once more came into veiw. Becca stood with more then one case now, a smile upon her lips, and a new look at life. Happy she was going home. Oh how she missed Burgoo and Nessa, and how she wanted to cuddle the new baby she was told was born to sweet dear Nessa. The morning of her departure no less. Mythios had told her of the news. How he knew, well he did have his resources. And becca did not doubt him, and mayhaps soon the rest of her family would come to know him. Mayhaps. Was all he would say of her request. The journey she really did not look forward to, but it did mean she would be home again, and home she did miss greatly. So much to tell them all. Oh how her life had changed. Yet so very much stayed the same. As she stepped into the coach and settled back, the horses charged off down a winding mountain path to carry Becca home again. She hummed happily as she watched the scene of nature blur past the speeding coach. She spoke aloud. "Ready or not here I come!" She laughed at her words and sat back enjoying the ride.

She was sitting in the white sands of the beach gazeing out into the froth of the water. Two dolphins danced about and played on the water in the early morning sun. A smile caressed this ladies lips, " What fun they must have, that is what two in love should be like". She sat diggin her toes into the warm sand the white silken dress she had found in the beach house fit around her loosely, the threads blowing in the slight breeze from the ocean. She thought of her cousin Nessa and her child and the night the babe was brought here. How Gilda had done so well with everything and spared her sweet cousins life. Through all of the excitement she couldn't remember if she was ever told the childs name. It was very odd to see Gilda offering her breast to the ailing Nessa, she had seen wet-nurses before so she knew the answer as to why Gilda was feeding the child. But Nessa? Things were done so differently here and Aldrea wasn't quite sure how to react to all of this. Was it actually madenning? Or was this normalcy....would she ever know. She hadn't seen Burgoo around and she wondered how he felt of his new daughter. These things always made her wonder of how love was...and watching the dolphins in the waves made things even more questionable. What was love? It seems to come in different ways here at the Chateau...things she hadn't been accostomed to. She knew one thing. She felt safe being here at the beach house that Nessa so graciously offered her. Shard, still frightened The Baroness. She's not really sure if she will ever get used to that beast. Thank the heavans he hadn't found his way down to her sanctuary. What was The Baroness' place here with Burgoo and Nessa? Should she stay to get to learn more about her cousin and their way of life or should she go back home....to hers and the Barons home. Always will she regret that she never made it to the funeral of her departed husband.
Riseing from the sand, dusting the flakes of white off of her clothing she stepped back to her quiet abode. Her home away from home. Still wondering what she should do...should she stay or should she leave?

He was becoming a bloody lord. He had shirked the vest and loose pants for a shirt and breeches that where tucked into actual riding boots. A slim dagger sat at his belt. And that massive black he rode was decked out in silver bells on his mane. Which seemed to piss off the horse more than not. He was waiting for the return of Becca but he also road in the morning to relax himself take some time to himself to think. He had meant to change Nessa from a lady to a slave but in her own way she had stayed true to herself she was slowly changing him. From this abrupt barbarian into well..a civilized man. As he turned that horse about he shook his head he was enjoying it::

On Friday as the sun was just setting and the sky was a vibrant shade of red-orange, a coach pulled up to the Chateau. Becca was ready, standing, a case next to her, and she was dressed in a new outfit. A long dark purple flowing skirt with a lace ruffle at the hem, a crisp white blouse that buttoned up high around her throat, a thin purple bow at the top of her collar, and a matching short waisted jacket. A pair of purple leather gloves that Gaston had given to her as a going away gift. The old devil he really did like Becca. The coach drawn by four black stallions, came to a stop before Becca. Her eyes were wide as she saw there was no driver seated atop it. And they grew even wider as she reached for the coach's door, and it opened up to her of its own accord. She stepped in, the interior was plush, and rich. Deep red soft velvet covered the seats, and the carpet beneath her feet was embroidered with silken threads, making out some designs that Becca thought were familiar to her, though she could not quite place them. As soon as she was seated, the coach took off and she rode in comfort for over 2 days. She would doze off and on, and after several hours the coach stopped in a small village, where Becca took the opportunity to freshen up, as she returned to the coach, she saw a meal and wine were left in a basket upon the opposite seat. Again she climbed in and the coach took off. Several times over the course of the next two days it stopped in small villages and each time she returned there was refreshments awaiting her. And every time she stopped it seemed no one in the villages ever took notice of her, or the mysterious driverless coach. After the last stop and some more wine had been drunk, she slept soundly. mayhaps a bit too soundly, for when she awoke, Becca found herself inside the castle of Mythios, upon a large four postered feather bed. Her clothes had been removed and her belongings put away. She stirred and rubbed at her eyes, they fluttered and slowly opened. She felt as if she had been drunk, but knew she only drank one glass of wine. Her mind told her she had been drugged. She gazed about the large bedroom, a huge stone hearth already set with a blazing fire, and a young maid standing bedside with a tray for her. She smiled at the pretty young thing. "Greetings." She said sleepily. The girl spoke quietly to her."Good evening Mistress Rebecca." At that she had to laugh. Being called Mistress was something she was not accustomed to."Evening, you say?" She had no clue as to the day or time. "Yes Mistress Rebecca, I need to help you dress, Master Mythios has bid me to escort you to supper." She set down the tray on the mahogony table next to the bed, and pulled back the covers. Becca noticed she was nude. "Who undressed me girl?" She asked slightly disgruntled. "I did Mistress." The girl replied. "You did eh? And what is your name girl?" Becca asked as she climbed out of bed. "I am Gabrielle, Mistress." She smiled softly. Becca nodded, and let the girl do her bidding and let her dress Becca. As she was lead through the castle, Becca was accutely aware of being looked upon, though no eyes could be seen. She was lead to a grand dining hall, with a long polished table, at the end of the table two places were set, and a man rather thin and weathered looking stood, dressed in a long flowing black robe. His eyes were as piercing as they come, and bluer then the sky above. Becca literally shivered as she approached him. She spoke not a word as he seemed to study her for a long moment. "My..." his voice held an almost errie tone. "You have grown into quite the woman Rebecca, though I knew you would." He said rather pleased, as a sly grin slid like a serpent over his lips. "I am Mythios, you may not remember me, my sweet. Sit." He bid her and she did, in silence, watching him carefully as he sat himself. A wave of his hand and the girl Gabrielle was dismissed. Becca had so many questions to ask him, and many more things would she learn as she stayed here. Much would become known by her, and her family in time. Mayhaps more then she ever though was possible.

She had no clue as to the day or time.

Noone knew..not like she did..the deceipt that Burgoo practiced. How in the very days of Moons death..and the days of his promises to Cricket..how he had secretly married yet another.
His children, would now have a mother. Drow queen..oh how that hurt..Burgoos deceptions..his lies. What had she done to deserve this? She had tried so very hard to make things work..
But no...Cricket, was so easily replaced.
She had heard from noone from the chateau..perhaps that was what had finally sunk in the hardest.
Becca only, had written...and that was to say goodbye.
Was this how a family treated you?
This, was what she had wanted?
Perhaps she had been a fool to want a family at all.
She stayed at the roost..she had no choice.
Ciro was gone..Burgoo had exchanged her deceitfully for yet another wife..Nessa had not even written to tell her of the birth of the child. She knew naught of it.
Amazing, how your family..one you had helped bring together..could so easily, and swiftly, forget you even existed.
So be it.
Cricket, would go on. She would survive through all the hardships and the heartaches.
To hell with family.
She, was a survivor..and would do so alone, as she had for years.

The small beach house was a hive of activity for the first few hours before Calyssa first breaths of life. Gilda was nae sure that neither Nessa or the wee babe would survive. Aldrea had found a well of strength she hadn't even realized she had in those few hectic hours. Perhaps even a slight bond between her and the flame haired cook had sprung to life. Now the small house, that stood close to the sandy beaches of the western sea, lay quiet, except for Gilda, all sleeping. The flamed haired woman whose beauty belied her age of seventy years, had pulled a rocking chair close to the door where Nessa lay in a deep sleep, the wee babe crooked in her arm as she rocked and sipped a warm brandy. Perhaps for the hundreth time she thanked the gods that Master Burgoo had had the foresight to bless her with the geen milk. She was sure that is what had finally saved the wee one and Nessa.
Emerald hues lovingly caressed the sweet face of Calyssa as the rocker continued its gentle motion.
" I knew yer mother lassie when she be nae more than yer age, and now thanks to yer father, the master himself I be knowing you little one...Thanks to yer mother's strong hand and the love of ye father, ye little lass will nev'r know the horrors of the Du'Monts. They be a curse'd lot. But ye little one will change all that...aye?"
Gilda crooned and rocked the sleeping infant, till she herself dosed, happy that she had not let her beloved master down. That both his girls were safe and alive.

Kina sat there with her twin brother and younger brother and their two griffonlets. The circle of wagons complete as they sat before theirs. Her red locks flowing softly in the night's air while her blue eyes looked to her twin brother, Davailian, and their brother, Logan. It seemed like it was years since their family was whole and in wondrous bliss. Now, they are alone and lost. Lost emotionally. The gypsies in the camp tried to sheild them but the whispers did make their way around. Their father, Burgoo, had taken up in some kindgon with many wives and a harem of slaves.
Anger boiled inside the young girl, now forced to become the woman of the group. They must be mistaken. Her father loved their mother. She knew this. Why would people say such things? But..where was he?
It pained her to even think such rumors would have a shread of truth. The loving times in the garden with her mother and father seem long since being lived. Had he forgotten them? Did he love them? Or has he foresaken them for a life of harlets and cares little for his family?
The darkness fell and morning came but Kina received no rest this night. Too much was on the young woman's mind...too many questions without answers. Too much sadness and lost so freshly known.

It seemed the world that had so rapidly embraced her, was coming apart slowly at the seams. Oddly this did not surprise Nessa. It fit right in with her innate belief that the Du'Monts must pay for old Cyrus cheating the devil. Gaston seemed to have lost that new spring in his step as he brought her the two missives wrapped with bright ribbons. She was at the beach house with Aldrea. The young ones, Lizzy and Abby, playing in the shifting surf as she an Aldrea took tea on the verandah, Lena not far away should they need something. She read each one in turn, one asking for forgiveness, the other trust. Rusted hues looked long out over the rolling waves as she finished the last one from Becca. She had come to love these two women. The trust Becca asked for easily given, she knew there were many things the girl had yet to learn about herself. Her heart went with her and the hope that she would find an allusive past, perhaps a past that might even bring her great happiness. Cricket...Cricket tore at her heart. Was she losing the only women that had ever really seemed to know her? That had so openly taken a mere slip of a girl and given her courage to face the things that she held so tightly out of fear in her heart?
She waved Gaston away, she had no power to answer these missive at the moment, so great was the pain in her heart. Becca she would welcome back with loving arms when she returned from whatever it was that drew her away. Cricket...Cricket she would go to, let her know that no space of land could ever dampen what was between them, and that the suite of rooms she had made her own at the villa would always from this day forward remain hers, no other could ever occupy them or Nessa's heart as she had done.
Lena refreshed the tea Aldrea and Nessa sipped, Nessa catching the worried glance of Aldrea as Lena quietly placed the pitcher near and went to chase the young ones closer inland. Though her heart was heavy with the words she had read, she smiled, delicate hands roaming over her swollen belly assuring Aldrea again the pain in her left side, that now seemed to be inching around to the small of her back, was common to pregnant women. She hoped Aldrea could not hear the doubt in her own words, nor read the fear in her rusty pools that something was not quite right. Perhaps if the pain didn't ease by the dark of eve she would send Shard for Burgoo...Perhaps...

Becca was sitting just at the forests edge,at her favorite place upon that boulder, when she saw Gaston slowly approaching, a wry smile over her lips, she thought the old devil, but as he neared and she could make out the expression on his face, her smile wavered, and after reading several messages that were penned to her, her smile all but disappeared. Gaston handed Becca, two missives, one was a note from Cricket, though she did not know it at the time, and the other was a rather ominus looking scroll, that was sealed with blood red wax, the imprint in the wax was a crest of sorts, she could just make out but a few minute details upon it, mysterious indeed. "Gaston?" She held up the scroll of parchment paper in her hand. "Where did this come from?" Gaston weary and with little emotion stated. "It was left at the door Miss Rebecca, I know not from whom, or where it came from, but it is clearly marked for you." He pointed to her name scrolled across the dark parchment. And before reading any of it, she said. "Gaston, please tell Cricket I'll be up to the house when I'm done reading." He shook his head softly. "Mistress Cricket is not at the house Miss Rebecca." He said with sorrow. Becca arched a brow at how he spoke. "Oh. Well never mind then I'll see her later tonight." She smiled one of her most charming smiles to him, that had little or no effect. He turned and walked off. She stared at his back for a long moment, holding her missives. She then looked down to her hands. She opened the note first, she smiled at first seeing it was indeed from Cricket. Her smile instantly faded as she read. Her eyes welled with tears, and they fell easily from her. Her family was coming apart at the seams, and it made her heart ache terribly. But, however a small smile soon came to her lips. And she spoke aloud to herself. "Those two will kiss and make up as always." And that seemed to satisfy her, for now. She then held the scroll in her hand. If she didn't read it, then whatever it contained could not touch her. She sensed, nae, she knew that what ever was in it, was something to be wary of. She sat for a long while, just staring at it,before she decided not to open it. If she did not know? Then it would not upset her. She stood and made her way into the forest, clutching the scroll, after several minutes, she came to a place she had found on her many outings out there,a clearing with a small murky area that held a scum covered pond, not very large at all, but it was exactly what she was looking for. She pulled the purple satin ribbon she wore round her throat as a choker, and then gazed about. Finding a suitable rock, she used the ribbon to secure the scroll to it, and with a heafty toss, the scroll, ribbon and rock, made little splash as it hit center, and she watched it vanish beneath the murky surface, a satisfied wipe of her hands together and she slowly made her way back out of the forest. She came upon the place where she had been sitting when Gaston had brought the messages to her, and her face turned ghostly white, her heart seemed to skip several beats before starting again, as her eyes fell upon the very scroll she just tossed in the pond. Dry as a bone, with a dripping wet purple ribbon sitting next to it, in a small pile. Eyes scanned the area instantly looking for the culprit, but no one was about, nor did she honestly expect there to be anyone. She left the ribbon, and lifted the scroll, turning it round and round in her hand. She sat down heavy on a boulder jutting up from the earth that had a smooth surface. She steadied her nerves and with a sharp fingernail, she broke the seal on the scroll, her eyes shut tightly, what she expected to happen, no one could say, but as it did seem to be following her about, she was nervous. Nothing happened, and slowly one eye opened followed by the other, she unrolled the parchment, and stared at a blank page. She laughed. "What in the name of..." But her voice fell silent as letters, words and sentences began to appear on the parchment before her very eyes. Long curling scrolling letters rose up on the parchment. She was dumbfounded. Then she read.~"There is much you need to know. I will send a carraige for you on the morrow. You will come. There is no other choice. If you do not board the carraige, you will know my wrath. Take heed girl, you do not wish to anger me." It was signed. ~Mythios~ She shivered as she read, eyes unblinking. She knew she would not like to know his anger, and knew she would board that coach. As she looked down at the paper, the writing seemed to swirl, and upon it now, crawled several dozen black spiders. She screamed and dropped the parchment, stumbling as she hastily crawled from it. Eyes wide in terror, heart pounding in her ears. Then the paper and spiders erupted in a brilliant blue flame. It was gone. Not even an ash remained to be found anywhere. Her whole body trembled. Fear in her yes, but something anew took root. Anger. An emotion she knew little about. Infact, she honestly cant ever recall feeling angry at anyone, for any reason at anytime. That in itself puzzled her brain, for she never realized it before, but it was infact true. Never had she felt anger. So many pieces of the puzzle that was her life were now fitting together and slowly a picture was taking shape. She walked back to the house, knowing she would pack. Now that she had clothes of her own. She also knew she would have to tell the others she would be leaving. For how long? She was uncertain. But she knew she would go. She dreaded the fact that she must leave Nessa, especially now that Cricket had left. But it must be done, that she knew.

It was early evening when she learned of the betrayal...her name, as wife, removed from Burgoos public records..and he had chosen, once again, to live his secrets outside of his families knowledge. It was more than she was ready, or able, to abide. She knew not his reasons, nor, did she care any longer. It was a constant with him..and she should have not been suprised.
Ciro had left the chateau..he felt he did not belong..and so she chose to do the same. For Ciro? perhaps. Because of Burgoo? perhaps that as well. Whatever the reason, it was her decision that the Roost, would house her now.
A missive was sent to Nessa and Becca, the only two she would explain herself to. It drug painfully at her heart, to have to leave them. She knew they would come to see her though, and she held onto that as her things were packed, and moved from the villa, to the roost. It didnt take long, and things were kept silent. She was more than grateful for Burgoos lack of magic upon her. He was none the wiser..just as he had thought she would be.
Only a single night passed in her roost, before her life would change forever. Her blood once again, her worst enemy.
Addiction, betrayal, and hurt, would drive her to play the most dangerous game. ..only this time..she would lose.
A passing kindred..a seemingly innocent stay...
now it mattered not what her heart might hold. The act was done. ..she would be forever changed.
Secrets would be kept, a room locked, apetite waned, dreams flooded her sleep, and naught seemed important any longer.
She had been before, and now would be in full, a Kindreds guardian servant.

Kaila found herself at the DuMont manor in the most curious of ways. She was searching for another, when she found herself instead. She wondered if that happened to many people. To set out for one thing, only to find something else, and essentially more important.
At nineteen, she was quite naive, and even moreso in this land so far from her Scotland Lowlands. She trustingly went and searched for Dallin, her would be betrothed. It never occured to her that it was a purposeful misdeed that had him killed. Until, of course, her own life was threatened. That is when she happened upon the Traveler's Roost.
Now, here she sat in the garden, a griffon not too far away, keeping an eye on her, but not in the least comming to pry. Despite the teasings from Burgoo and Cricket, the griffon made her feel protected.
Her thoughts ran to many things, and finnally settled upon one. Slender fingers toyed with the hem of the borrowed dress which fit her willowy curves better than what she previously wore. With a flick of wavy ebon locks, clover eyes settled on the Griffon that watched her.

"Thell m'somethin' lad, wha' ahm I goin' ta du once I find meself?"

A chirp was the reply..which was no help at all. Soft laughter fell before she plucked clover from the ground, fashioning a halo, murmering to the winds.

Time did seem to rush along, so many changes, so many lives affected. Nessa had come to realize she was but a bit player in the scheme of the gods. If she perished tomorrow, she would only leave but a small dent in the lives of those she cherished. A dent that time in its rush to eternity would smooth away.
She had begun reading her father's journals. What did she hope to learn there? That somewhere beneath that evil veneer lay a man? A man that bled just like any other man? A heart that had perhaps at one time loved? She found none of this, she found she had been right all along. This man...this devil...her father, had no heart.
Each page she read pierced her with a deeper hatred of the man who had given her birth. There was no healing to be found among these pages. No softening towards he who now resided in hell. Just a deep sadness that she must tell another man whom she feared had no heart. Whose lessons at the foot of this devil perhaps had been too well learned? She thought of Charles, how would he receive the news that the very man he immulated himself after had been the very man who had had his parents murdered. Would it end the reign of hatred for Charles, or push him deeper into the voids of evil, her father had made sure the young boy who had come to them had learned?
Nessa had no answers for these questions that now haunted her. As she bound the journals and handed them over to Markus, for it was he she would trust to hand them over to Charles. The only other person in life that they could now possibly matter too. Her short missive lay sealed with the crest of the Du'Monts atop the bound books, it words were short, but no greater meaning could they have held.

"I now give you what had no power to heal me.
May the gods guide and look over your shoulder
as you read these twelve books written by the
devil himself. My heart is heavy for the pain
they may cause you Charles, but hopeful that
in these pages of dark deeds and evil thoughts
you find what the devil himself never attained...the light."

Always and Ever your Cousin
Lady Cynessa Du'Mont

Her own pain was laid aside as the villa was plunged into a mourning for the passing of Burgoo's first wife. She could only begin to image the pain he must feel, for though she had lost her mother, she had yet to lose anyone she had shared the very essence of her life with. She knew and understood there was nothing she nor anyone else could do to lessen his pain. That only time, in its eternal rush, could bring about that healing. For that she would wait, if it took eternity. When he was ready to see her again, she would be here. Her worry extended to Cricket and the pain that only another woman could see on her lovely face. She guessed it had something to do with Ciro, for she had not seen him in many days. She knew Cricket would share that pain if she so wished, till then she did not pry. Among all this pain and sadness was the young ones, now their numbers increased by the children of Lanthe, Shai and Kett. It was good the children were there and needed attention, for this perhaps saved her from insanity. She was nearing the end of her pregnancy and this too weighed heavy on her mind. Who would Calyssa be? would the Du'Mont blood that ran in her veins taint her? Would she bare some of the devil's own darkness? She was not unhappy that Burgoo had sealed away Calyssa's geen powers till her sixteenth year. Perhaps by then Nessa would know if Cain's reach from hell would still touch her life, and more importantly the life of his granddaughter. She needed to spend time with Aldrea, who had taken up residence in the small, yet elegant beachhouse. To perhaps share her pain, and bring her to a greater understanding of the world she was so ruthlessly plunged into when the Baron's life ended so abruptly...so much to do. Did she have the strength to endur? Only that rush of time to eternity would reveal the answers....

There is a simple bond between this griffin and man. One made to help them through never feeling alone. Never being away. Now the third one that had ever been in that bond was dead. They where not taking it well. First was the silence. The huge man and griffin just sat there in utter silence not moving but like two statues. At first the childeren had thought it a game and slid down Shards back in the garden until Loco had chased them off. Then the noise. Loud chirpings began first from Burgoo then the Griffin speaking to eachother in discordant tones people walking buy had to cover there ears. Then the long stroke of silence again before it all broke out. Shard hit the air flying in long slow circles as Burgoo just looked up. Suddenly a pyre of flame shot from the sky and enveloped him and the ground around him. The heat would send the grass around him for five feet to burning the grass around him. He was trying to enter the heavens somthing he did to often. The gods would not give him this his heaven walking could not take this soul. At that he just collapsed with shard near him blank eyes looking up. Somthing was broken and healing within.

The bond that was shared with Shard and Burgoo come to a haulting snap of silence. That which they held with Moonflower goes flat.

Within a week after, there is a missive that is delivered to the manor proper. Sealed and for Lord Burgoo of the Flaming Blade.

*Inside*
Lord Burgoo,
It saddens me to have to send this word of death to you of your wife, Moonflower. She was on an outing gathering herbs and was attacked. Not sure by whom or what, but it was so severe, there was nothing we could do but make her comfortable. The children were around her when she passed.

They are being cared for until you can make other arrangements.

She had spent the day at the Roost, with Becca. It had been crazy, and busy..but all in all in went well.
Things were better for Becca now too..with new found freedom..she was already blossoming.
Nessa was getting further along in her pregnancy..but she too, seemed to be coping well.
Burgoo..well..he was his normal frustrating but beloved self..and he tried..very hard, to make them all happy.
Shai and Kett were staying at the chateau..and even though that was hard..because of the secret of Ciros being there..she still held hope that in the future, when Ciro healed..it would all turn out allright.
Aldrea was grieving..Saji was ill..she hardly saw Ciro..and Lanthe..they feared was gone. But people were growing, and changing..and despite the hardships..things, she thought..were working out.
She was to find..that not everything was going as smoothly as she might like to think.
She drug herself back to the villa..tired and just wanting a bath, whiskey, food and quiet. Burgoo had astounded her with what he had done a few days previous. She loved him for it though..he tried So hard..and she had come back to him. He really couldnt help himself at times.
She bathed and ate, while Burgoo and Shard wrestled each other in the gardens, and when Burgoo came up, he would find her in a good mood, adorned in her night time shirt, with a whiskey and book in hand, small spectacles perched upon her nose.
They talked about all manner of things, from poison skinned races to her own blood, to Aldrea and Nessa, and about Becca, and Saji..just quiet, friendly talk, that soothed her and made her smile.
She was quite stunned to find Ciro in the hall...and oh..he seemed even worse than before. Her heart was wrung between hands of fierce pain each time she saw him..and she had been walking on eggshells since writing him the missive about Shai and Kett. ..He had not responded..but then..she had only hoped he would..not really expected it.
Burgoo, left them alone.
She certainly did not expect what happened next..as her whole, precariously constructed world, was brought down around her ears like so many cards.
" I lied to you Cricket"
oh those words cut her heart like glass..he had said them to her once before.
"I cannot stay here"
"Ill be leaving in the morning"
Perhaps she had known, somehow, for there was no suprised as the words scathed her ear. Only a deep hole somewhere inside..that poured out blackness as he spoke.
Her months of waiting..her hard learned patience..her aching for him night and day for so long...the hope that he would somehow..get to know his children..
it was all for naught..and she suffered the consequences.
She gave no words of protest..there was no anger, or begging. Times for that were over now. She could find no words to stop him.
She had once told him she would leave the family she had so long sought, to be with him and him alone..because she could not bare the thought of leaving him. As he told her that he was going back to the cabin..she closed wet eyes. She could no longer follow..for her word had been given to watch over Shai and Kett. His children. ...his children that needed him so..and that he constantly denied. The split to her heart, was great..leave everything for him..or stay..for his children. There was no indecision..no room for it. Her word had been given..and no matter what anyone thought..her word, was gold.
He spoke his words..with cold detachment..and she looked away. She could not stand to see his back turned her way again. She spoke naught..and the torture went on..as he could not take the steps away. It was too hard for him. He could not stay, yet he could not walk away.
She had learned her lessons well from him..and though it would be one of the hardest things she had ever done..she gave him a last gift. Her quiet, roughened voice through the tears, came only as she detached herself..odd, brutal efficiency, that strangely, she had learned from him.
"I do not love you Ciro. I never loved you. I do not want you anymore. Go away."
Her stomach clenched, her heart twisted..and as each word was spoken, she was sicker. Never had words made her so ill.
Somehow, even with her back to him..she had known the dagger was drawn. Yet still..there was no protest..resigned to take whatever came. The dagger fell..no blood was spilled. Only the essence of her heart, as he spoke the last words she would hear from him.
"you never could lie to me Cricket"
No..she never could..but she did that night..and she was naeuseaus with it.
When she at last turned around, he was gone. Only an empty chair on her balcony..and she dropped to her knees, sick at heart, in mind, and stomach. Tears came..tears she thought she had long ago shed..and she grieved for him as if she had buried him herself. "Her" Ciro was gone..she had lost him to whatever horrors had captured him from the cabin. In his place..was this cold, shell of a man..and she could do nothing..nothing at all, to remedy it.
He was a rogue..a heartless assassin..and she had been a fool to think she was any different from the hundreds of other women he had left with child.
It was what he did, she realized..it was what he was. Ironic that he could not leave her carrying his child..but in that ugly twist..his other children, were now under her care. She would see them every day..she would be reminded every day..and Ciro, would leave yet another broken heart and devastated woman in his wake.
She hadnt been so different after all.

He had broken a promise..had used magic upon Cricket. Now..he found himself at the temple.

He hated these places.
This man without a God, that was not above them, but could not be controlled by them, rarely entered temples. Of course this was the only one he deigned in any sort of commensuration. It was given to this church. The holy order of Sune the Goddess of the sun and all light and warm places. A Goddess he in his own way, revered. No acolyte or temple guardian greeted him...but a woman dressed in flowing golden silks with darkened skin and shining hair...speaking of her own worship of the sun.
This woman was wrinkled from time but still bared one breast. Over it rested a golden (?).
She was small and Burgoo could have crushed her if he willed. He instead held out a box of shining metal, that when opened, would show a perfect amber piece glowing like the morning sun. Taken from a liches lair it was the first symbol dedicated to Sune and had been lost for many thousands of years. Burgoo had taken it from a coven of witches that used it to kill the undead splitting the balance of evil and good. Now it rested within the temples hold.
He almost sneered at the Goddess, but he needed this womans respect if her were to survive the night.
Two men roughly searched him for weapons and removed everything metal from him accept for his breeches, and even then the metal buttons where popped off. Again he swallowed his pride....and so much swallowing he had to do.
Slowly he was lead up ot the alter. Many prayers started summoning the Goddess , a gease was being laid. The priestess spoke. "Speak your need mortal Geen". Oh that made him wince...but he had to do this or risk loosing Cricket forever
"I wish this gease to settle that I may use no magic upon the woman known as Cricket, Second Mistress of house Du'mont and wife to this man. Unless asked or desprately needed and in no way may I touch her with magic, pending such terms of my death, passing my soul into the realm of hell"
At that it seemed a bell tolled and a line of pure white light shot from a statue of Sune. A robed woman, greatly beautifull with one breast bared, that holy symbol glowed and pulsed wrapping his soul and burning in his set rules.
Soon a white dove would land on the woman known as Crickets shoulder and she would see all that had been spoken and done. Even the moment Burgoo bent over himself pulling at his skin for over his heart seemed a metallic sun had been tattooed it would fade but never disapear.
He stood up then. He looked weak, but that holy magic had settled much of his life and taken away a bit of him and remade it settling it back within his body. His massive shoulders seemed a bit higher as he began to walk out. He would not lose her.
Later, Shard would appear note in beak that bird always seemed to find her dead ass. Its only words were.
"Please Return."
Written in the fine script of his hand, but with it was a slowly drawn Burgoo of house Dumont.
It was addressed to Cricket of house Dumont. They had done one thing, that two street tough bad asses could never do in all there days. Become family because of a girl they both loved. And because of their mutual love, he had made a sacrifice and in the following days would make more and more.

The times, they are a changing. So many times, so many fear change, the unknown. Infact, Becca was one herself. But now, she looks to it, the future, with both eyes open, ready to embrace what mystery will come next. She still had no idea of her past, but some how with looking to the future, it doesn't seem so intense. All in good time, will she know the truth of her past. Burgoo will see to it. But it was Cricket, that strong willed, sometimes hot tempered, lovely, lovely down to earth woman, that saw something and took Becca by both shoulders and made her face it. And it was Nessa, who in her soft loving ways, helped Becca realize that even if we fear something, it doesn't always mean it will be bad. And now on the verge of change, Becca stands and looks back at what was, and wonders what will come. Somehow, even though her nightmares continue, she feels much more at peace then she ever could remember. As a slave Becca thought of them, Burgoo, Cricket and Nessa as her family. But now, as the new day dawns when she is to be a free woman? She will call them her family and it will be as such. Not a illusion, but reality. Until ceramony prevails and the collar removed by rightful hands, that collar still graces her throat. Though inside, she is different. Gone are the days of meak and mild. Strength, power and determination are now her new found friends. Just possibly, now she will feel as if she does belong. Where as before she always fought to fit in, now she will make a place and a name for herself, and those who will stand with her, she will always adore, and those that oppose her? Well let us just say, they will come to know regret. Her intelligence will be worn proudly and openly, gone are the days when she hid from the world behind a meek exterior. Yes indeed, she has found freedom and is ready to embrace it. And willing to take all that may come with it. Good and bad, rightous or indifferent. Now she is the Mistress of her own destiny, of course with the help and support of her loving family. This is the season..turn..turn..turn.

With the new knowledge of power within, Becca's heart was heavy. She had always known, sensed, there was something different about her, but she had always closed her eyes to it, her mind and her heart. Ignore it and maybe it will go away. But this is never the case, as most have found out. She stole away to the forest again, late in the day, and she laid out upon that bed of moss, she had discovered when she first came to the Chateau. Where the tree top canopy above her head, opened to show the sky. She laid there, brooding, her mood dark. Even the animals that had grown accustomed and even welcomed her to their home, avoided her, sensing the darkness of her mood.As the late day sun beat down on her and warmed her body, her eyes grew heavy. She often napped here, when the family was busy. She had every intention of returning that evening to be at her family's side. But this was not the case. As day turned to dusk, and dusk to night fall, and the stars crept out to lounge about in the blackened sky, they too seemed to hide from Becca. The sky clouded over and they hid from sight. She was in a fitfull sleep now, her body twitched and jerked upon her moss bed, whimpers and moans ensued, as she was thrown into a nightmare of ghastly visions and tormented emotions.~She was standing in a black swirling pool of energy, her breath has seemed to cease. Aubrurn locks unfurled, and grew in length, whipping about her face and nude form violently. She was searching again. But more urgent was her intent to find what she sought. A light shone from her eyes as if a pure energy came from within, lighting her way. Then all at once everything fell silent, dead. In pitch black she stood, no more light came from her eyes, and she was suddenly aware of her heartbeat, as if the sound of it filled the area, and how quickly it was beating.Laughter filled her ears, but not all at once, it crept up on her. A laugh of malice. It frightened her at first, this timid girl. But as it rang out louder, she found anger had replaced her fear. An anger the likes she had ever known, an anger born of evil. "Show yourself!" Her voice snarled. The laughter seemed to lessen. "Do not vex me!" She threatened this unseen assailant. Surely this was not the Becca everyone had come to know? Her voice demanding and even cruel. The laughter stopped. Once more silence hung in the air. "Tana." A female voice seemed to sooth her momentarily. Her eyes narrowed and she hissed. "Who are you?" The laughter was her only reply. "Show yourself now!" She snapped. The laughter softened. "Tana" it purred. "A slave? Oh the shame of it all.You could have done so much more with your mortality. But a slave girl?" The voice said followed by a sickening "Tsk..tsk tsk." Which instantly enraged Becca."Damn you!" She snarled, which only brought down a shower of more laughter.Though no form could be seen, Becca sensed the presence attached to the voice. An air of familiarity was felt, but she dimissed it at once. "Show yourself wench!" She spoke through gritted teeth."Oh wench am I now? This slave girl has found a backbone, eh?" The laughter came again. She was infuriated, head whipping about, narrow slitted eyes, casting about in all directions, to try and find the one who spoke."Tana look at what you are."The voice said with some amount of pity. "My name is Rebecca! I know not this Tana." She snapped. And as quickly as that dream had formed in her mind, it quickly vanished. As she woke, she found herself in of all places standing behind the Roost, on her feet, and panting heavily, confused and dazed as to how she could have gotten there. Only time will tell if something wicked were to come.

Obsessive...was the only word that could be used for Nessa's interest with the lower levels. She was down there way before the sun rose, long before the first of the crews arrived and long after the last of them left for the day. It was usually Gilda or Markus that went after her leading her exhausted little pregnant body up those back spiral stairs into the warmth of the kitchen. Making sure she at least nibbled at a hot meal. She was glad Markus had returned, she had missed him greatly. With him she could be just Nessa, no mask, no pretending to be who she wasn't. He accepted all her weaknesses, knew all her weaknesses, even why she had become obsessed with this task she had chosen. It was her way to hide from her own mind. To put aside things she didn't want to face. In between all this she still managed to take care of the girls, make sure Aldrea was taken care of, visit Cricket when she was home, or make a quick trip to the Roost, and be pleasing when Burgoo made his appearences. Markus wore a worried frown whenever he looked at her, he understood this was her way of controling the things she could, and ignoring the ones she could not, he just didn't know how long she could keep it up before that fragile exterior cracked and shattered. It was not something he ever wanted to witness again. But all he could do was be there, as he had always been there sense before the murder of her father.
The lower levels resembled nothing of the devil's playground anymore, the marble walls had been bleached and scrubbed back to their soft grayish hue, gone were the chains and manacles, the tables of torture, the wall of whips and merciless toys used for the devil's wicked, cruel enjoyment. Nessa still found no demons or haunted souls. Just the quiet, somtimes overwhelming silence that made footsteps echo down barren corridors.
She walked these corridors now, feeling distant from all those above her. She was losing and she didn't know how to stop the merry-go-round and get off. Aldrea in her anger had spoken harsh words to her, words that had near taken her breath away with the simple truth of them. The apple had not fallen far from the tree, she was her father's daughter...and what did she know about love? She didn't have any answers for Aldrea, had only managed to make the only other family member she had, hate her. Why should it hurt so much? Her father wouldn't have cared. She walked the corridors until they turned into the caverns and she could smell the sea. The sea...where it had all started...where old Cyrus had defied the gods and survived. Perhaps they all, all the Du'Monts after, paid for that one defiance.
It was Markus that had found her in the secret little cove, curled upon the glittering night sands, rusted hues staring out to the hull of the ghost ship, that had set their fate in stone. He lifted her in his strong arms and cradled her against his chest as he began carrying her back through the caverns, his long strides determined, her whisper tearing at his heart::
"He should have died Markus....then done of us would have been born"

The morning was spent relaxing in the steamy baths, lena had gotten very good at knowing just how to ease the tension from Nessa and soothe her over worked mind. Lizzy and Abby splashed about like two little fishes, even their antics and play seeming to chase away the many troubles of the villa. As lena rubbed the scented oils into her damp flesh, she let her mind just roam where it would. She was quite sure Aldrea thought she had wondered into a zoo or for that matter an asylum for the insane. She could only thank the gods that Burgoo had been home when Shard had taken offense to Aldrea invading his space. Rusted hues closed as the girl's fingers dug into tight muscles. Nessa had already decided to have a long talk with Aldrea as soon as the poor woman woke up from her night of sheer terror. But how did one explain the villa and its occupants. Nessa had not realized just how strange their life might seem to an outsider till the events of last night. She hoped the Baroness, her cousin at least had an open mind. She seemed so innocent, like Lizzy or Abby. How different their lives had been, one cousin raised to the cruelties of the world, the other pampered and coddled against them. Nessa had not been unaware of Burgoo's interest in Aldrea, she wondered where the Baron was and just why he had let such an innocent girl go off alone. Nessa rose as lena lifted to get her silken robe and held it for her as she eased into it, time to see if the Baroness was awake. She the young ones to the care of lena and wandered out into the mid afternoon sunshine of the balcony, rusted hues moving to her private sleeping chambers where she hoped Aldrea would be waking....time to bring the innocent into the real world....

From where she had come to where she is lead, Becca had so blindly walked on. Questioning very little. It was simply not her nature. But oft times many are untrue to their nature. And mayhaps this was such the case with Rebecca. She knew and loved those who raised her as their own, but alas she was not really theirs. Who were the ones to join their seeds of life and create her. Tis now that she has once more settled in a place where she feels loved does she now wonder of who it is they love? Who do they see? Becca the slave, a faithful, loyal loving girl who would sooner die then displease. Yet, there were times when she felt lost and detached, it seemed the more she was pleasing the less she knew about herself. Paradox was the word for her. Where did she come from, who sired her? With the baby in Nessa's womb, with the power it had to touch her mind and speak to her, made Becca curious, all the more curious of her own birth rites. So guiding was the hand of Cricket for her, showing her the way to be the best of what she was. But was it really her? Was this her calling? It seemed so right, and she took to it well. There could be no other answer, or could there? Each day she roams the forest floors, searching. But for what? She had not an inkling. Yet as if a lemming, she is drawn there daily, and could not deny herself those visits even if she tried. Master Burgoo, took to her and for this she was grateful. She adored Cricket and Nessa as well. The family she ached for was now within reach, yes it would appear she had all she had ever sought after. Then why now does her mind wander and fret over things she may never come to know. Her birth parents. She knew there was something different about her then most, but she took it as a submissive nature. And is why she is what she is today. Again as she entered under the darkened canopy of the forest did her mind become and extension of herself, leading her and searching. What ghosts wait for her? She knows not, they haunt her in life, and she grows more weary with every passing day.

Subject: Demons faced and a terrified little girl put to rest.

Nessa had slept fitful, unwinding herself from the young ones that she had allowed to crawl into her silken bed, in hopes of chasing the demons away that seemed to be haunting her sleep. In the hazy shadows of the very early morn, she dressed in the loose fitting leathers. Strange how even the silence felt deeper, more profound now that she had distanced herself from the baby. She didn't allow herself to think about last night. How the knowledge had came to her, this child she carried was an enity she didn't understand. That already it exercised a strange control over her, and not only over her but perhaps those about her. Had the sand been Burgoo..or had the babe made sure nothing harmful came to it? She was sure Becca's strange behavior to convince her this baby loved her, even driving the girl past what would be considered proper for a slave, was the manipulation of the baby. All this had terrified her. Cricket had seemed to know, to understand even though Nessa had struggled to find the words to explain, even though she had sounded like a crazy woman.
She belted the wicked looking dagger and sheath to her left thigh, fingers brushing dark sable strands from the sleeping Lizzy's face, her rusty pools caressing Abby, before she turned and left the the chamber through the the arched balcony doorway, sure footed steps, their sound hushed by that soft leather that covered them wound her through the garden and towards the back of the villa. Had she not been in such a pensive, dark mood, the look on Gilda's face when she entered the kitchen, already fragrant with the smells of fresh baking bread, would have brought a laugh to escape her lips, but there was no joy in the task she was about to embark upon. Only acknowledging Gilda's soft spoken greeting with a simple nod, she moved to the hearth, earthenware mug in hand, pouring the steaming black coffee in the mug, taking a hesitant sip as if she dared the babe to defy her, to once more exercise its hold over her. All she tasted was the strong, bitter flavor of the coffee, a smile as if she had won a small battle crossed her lips.
Earthenware mug in hand she moved to the small arched door that lead down, down into what as a child had been hell. She stood there, free fingers toying with the key in the pocket of her leathers, staring at that door as if it would open and gobble her up. Gilda's soft, worried voice snapped her mind from the past back into the present.
"You be ok Lass?"
Nessa inhaled softly before she looked over her shoulder at the face that had so changed, gone was the wrinkled old woman, in her place stood the beautiful pleasure slave of her grandfather. So many changes, but she didn't have time to think about that now, she offered the worried woman a smile and a few words.
"Yes Gilda...I'm fine..."
The key turned in the lock, the tumblers dropping into place as if it had not been more than a year sense this door was opened. It was the back way into the lower regions of the villa. What did Nessa expect to find? Did she expect to meet the ghosts of hundreds still screaming and moaning? Still chained and locked in cruel manacles to walls and tables of torture? Would the bright glow of crimson mock her rusty hues from stained floor and walls? Would they rush at her? Assult her mind? Damn her for not saving them sooner? She found none of this as she stepped into her father's region of hell, only a deep sense of saddness and loss for those that had suffered, for those that she could not save. Silence...there were no demons, no haunted ghost, no lost souls still roaming the dank, dark halls of the devil's playground.
She sipped the last few swallows of the bitter coffee, as her gaze met and assessed these regions. These region that no longer had the power to hold her in the grip of her terrified childhood. Yes, she thought, with a few changes this would be perfect for Sho. As if in rejection of that thought the baby moved. But Nessa had already faced more demons then this child even knew existed, and her soft whispers echoed into the dank, shadowy halls.
"Get used to it Calyssa...your father has a lot to teach you about the world your soon to be born too..."
The mug dangling in her fingers she made her way back up that spiral staircase into the warm, fragrant kitchen. A new, reborn Nessa coming from those regions of silence. A Nessa that made an arch come to the beautiful brow of Gilda as commands were given in tones that made it quite clear she had left the frightened little girl behind.
"The lower regions are to be stripped and cleaned, nothing but marble floors and walls are to be left. Make sure that NO one that remembers my father's reign, or the hell he wrought is set to this task, even if you have to hire outside help...and I want it done within the week..."
The mug was set to wooden table as those same sure footed strides took her to the door that lead out into the herb garden and stable grounds, her last words tossed over her shoulder to the still stunned Gilda.
"If anyone asked for me...tell them I went to get the Baroness..."
The sun was barely begining to chase away the night shadows as she came into the stableyard and stood looking up towards that awakening sky, that doused the light of the midnight stars. She was still smiling as she hollered.
"Shard....wake your lazy ass up...we're going to get the Baroness..."

Cricket

Date Posted: 07:30:44 06/17/01 Sun

Cricket walked throughout the night, and far into the morning. As she walked, she went over the last week..and all the things that had coalesced to change her life.
There was Nessa..and the foolish act that could have gotten the woman and her child killed..the fight that rocked their very foundation afterward..and the relief that had come as things seemed to settle. Nessa had given her this family, still, welcomed her with open arms, and Cricket so worried that she would make some mistep, or bad decision, that would crack it all in half.
There was Burgoo, and all he had done for her lately..he never ceased to suprise her..and she was ever grateful that he had allowed not only Ciro to be a part of the house..but now Sho too. He had even agreed to step back, and allow the impending visit of Charles. Sometimes, she could just kiss the big Smithy for his large heart.
Charles..she had already developed a wary appreciation of the mans sneakiness, and it was perhaps as hard for her, as it was Burgoo, to not slit the mans throat as soon as he might show his face. But no..they would wait, and be nice, and perhaps things would work out after all.
Aldrea..and her impending visit. She was nervous about meeting such a stately lady, and one that seemed very spoiled to the luxuries of life, if her missives were any indication. Cricket had to wonder just why a broken carriage would impede a visit, only 25 miles away..surely a carriage or entourage from the chateau could have been sent. But Cricket stayed out of such matters as that. Still..she had to wonder, if there was Any correlation between Aldrea..and Charles..and what might happen when blood relatives, met the adopted family that ruled the chateau now.
There were other concerns as of late..not less than the others, was Ciros return. And Lanthes.
Gods..how badly had she missed him..and how it hurt to see him now, in such a deplenished and battered state. Both his mind and his body had suffered greatly..and she felt entirely helpless to change it. She wished she knew what had happened to him..but Ciro, was not able to remember.
He had come to her at the roost..near death..he was only a shell of the man she remembered. Later, he had come to the chateau though, ..and that had made her determined, to keep him there, where it was safe..where he could heal..and where she was.
Lanthe was here too..and Cricket worried constantly that it was too difficult for her..to remain where Ciro was, while his heart was given. She felt a little sick at the thought..She loved Ciro so..but Lanthe was her friend, and she all too well knew the heartbreak that she suffered. All Cricket could do, was to bring them together as much as possible, let Ciro heal, and hope, that the pain did not outweigh the better.
Ciro had agreed to stay..more because she could not bear the thought of his leaving the safety of the chateau, and begged him to stay, than perhaps because he wished to. She promised him anything, everything, and at last, he had agreed.
The east wing of the chateau would be his..no servants or slaves allowed within..noone would bother his healing. Not even Cricket, who made sure his food was there each day, and any needs he had taken care of. The servants were already whispering about the dark, brooding Master in black robes that roamed the halls of the east wing like a ghost.
Cricket now had the responsibility of Becca as well. She had brought her into the chateau as house slave, and the girl had become a favored pet. Who could not cherish the girls devotion, sexuality, and the lengths to which she would go to please.
The thing that perhaps weighed the most heavy upon Crickets mind..was Sho. Sho Shinjo..Gods..to just say the name brought a moan of ghosts from the past. A past she stuffed down with a strong mental hand. She had put Shinjo behind her, and she would not go back. Sho..was his own..like eyes, like name, aside..he was not Shinjo.
Her addiction to him had swept her up so suddenly, so strongly, that she had at first, been helpless against it.
Perhaps it had been the last time..as he fed from her at the roost..with the crying Becca in the other room, and Nessa at her defense..Shard as well..and the results of that dark early morning, that made her realize, that she could not indulge her addiction as she might like.
It was not only dangerous to her, but to the house, and that, was not an option.
She had spoken to Burgoo later..for despite the fear, and the danger, she felt guilt, and remorse, at having ended a life, that was perhaps, all that Sho had had. She felt that Sho was alone..keenly aware of it, from her own experience..and she owed the Kindred, Sho..owed him at least half of what she had taken away.
She asked Burgoo to speak with him..to give the Kindred a chance, that he might escape his own hated darkness, by their acceptance of him. Burgoo suprised her again..by agreeing.
Cricket had to wonder, if Ciro had watched last night, from his windows in the east wing..as Sho appeared in the gardens, before Cricket and Burgoo, and had showed himself..and stood in stoic face off with the Master of the house. Had Ciro seen, or heard, as Burgoo allowed him to stay? Ready to burn him to ash, should he let the beast be unleashed, but at last, Nessa, and yes, even Burgoo, had seen the loss in Sho, seen the pain..and had welcomed him with if not wary, but open arms.
Burgoo had left them for a time, and Cricket, had then done something she was now regretting. She had given Becca to Sho to feed from..somehow sensing his reluctance of what he was..of what he had to have..and letting him know, that she understood, that it was fine. Fine as long as the beast was kept leashed. She had to wonder now..if that were even possible. Could the Beast be kept leashed? She really..didnt know..and had she risked Beccas life? She had thought she had it all under control..but had she? had she really? ..and my Gods..what was Ciro going to say.
The child in Nessa cried out with the earth in protest at the abhorration..at the wrongness of the act..and woe was Cricket to realize..that perhaps her call to serve those of Caine..was twisted black with the threads of wrong doing..and in that, she might sever that which she had always longed to hold. Family..love..she had all that now.
Would it be risked by the call to serve the one of Caine?
As was her way..Cricket wanted it all...and she was damned determined..that she would have it. ..that they would All, have it..have those things deserved, those things yearned for, for so many painful years.

Once again Seldric is standing at the base of the marble stairway waiting for Cynessa to receive yet another scroll written from The Baroness

Cynessa,
My arrival is yet postponed again...the coachman to my 4th carriage has fallen ill and Alfred, he's the coachman to my personal carriage feels that we should just shoot the coachman of the 4th carriage. I don't think is right, but I don't know what to do...how I wish the Baron was here to take over in this situation. And if we shoot the 4th coachman whose going to drive my carriage? I've ran into a dilema and I am not sure of what to do. We are only 25 miles from your villa but I am afraid I will be here until I can get another person here to drive the 4th carriage. I've sent word back to the Manor.
I seem to have neglected to let you know, that my stay at the Villa may only be a short one I've brought enough of my belongings to last for a week, I hope you do have room for us.

See you soon,
The Baroness

Seemingly abandoned, Becca wandered RhyDin, aimless in her direction. Straving, and starved for attention. A little while back, she had been meandering about the slave market, when a striking woman caught her eye. Now Becca truly was a good girl, but upon this day, light headed from being malnourished, and desperate for attention, she set about to capture this woman's attention. Alas, she had gone about it all the wrong way. Having been naughty, this woman did what any repectable Mistress would have done. Punish Becca. And in doing so, she put Becca in a cage, locked it and left, but with the threat of a severe even lethal punishment should Becca dare disobey like this again. As luck would have it, a young child pick pocket took pity on her and picked the lock, setting Becca free. Her Master still had not returned, and a week or so had passed, and Becca was lost. She stole fruit and meager means of substance to live off of. This certainly was not the life Becca had intended. At the end of all hope, she stole many items of high quality to place in a basket, as a peace offering, and thank you gift. The gift intended for Cricket DeLaRogue. Then she headed for the Roost. Having seen Mistress Cricket enter there before. Having made a much better impression this time, though still not a perfect one, Cricket must have had a weak moment and more or less took pity on the poor girl. That day, she was taken from the Roost, to the Chateau DuMont, where a collar was placed on her throat. The one from her previous Master had long since been gone, having it tore from her throat by a drunken Master in a seedy tavern. (That instance, Becca had barely escaped with her life.)And now feeling as if she belongs once more, Becca strives for perfection, in serving the household. She simply adores Mistress Nessa and Cricket, and having only breifly met Master Burgoo, she feels fairly certain they well get on just fine, as long as she always remembers her place. And she does, of course. She had also met others, such as Mistress Lanthe, who seemed very charming indeed. And a few others, in time she will come to know them one and all, and hopes to serve them well.

Seldric her personal messenger brings a note written on fresh crisp linened paper...the Teufel'Ter emblem embossed on the rolled paper.
Seldric being instructed explicitely to give the scroll only to Cynessa stands at the bottom of the marbled stair leading to the entryway of her villa...patiently he awaits her to come to the door...
The scroll reads:

My dearest Cynessa,
I am terribly sorry that it has taken me so long to finally get to your villa. I am anxiously awaiting to see you. The Baron will not be visiting this time with me and my personal scout has told me that we should be to your villa within the next few days, as long as this miserable carriage can withstand the travel. I must speak with the Baron about the craftsman work of the people he has hired to make our personal carriages...but that is something that isn't needed to be discussed right now. Hopefully, the travel will be short but they tell me that my third carriage with part of my belongings is haveing problems. Oh dear, what to do. I wish the Baron was with me. My scout has just informed me that it will definately be the day after tomarow that we will be there. We are stopping here for the night...it's a quiet little spot beside a waterfall, I might even take me a dip. While we are stopped for the night I will have my carriage looked over so that there will be no more delays.

Lanthe had only just recently met any of the Du'Mont household. The first being Cricket, a long time friend of course, but only recently had the friendship been rekindled. It was an interesting friendship. It seemed Lanthe was constantly making friends out of her lover's mistresses. It was a difficult and long history that her thoughts often wandered to. When she wasn't concerned over the war back home, her daughter Shai running with the wolf pack, or her son Kett and his dark moods. At least Shai had not a single trace of the Taint that Lanthe carried so strongly. And so now she was pacing the floor of her cavern home, one that Ciro had visited many times. She'd recently come from the Du'Mont home. So Ciro was back again. Lanthe had failed in her efforts to find him, but he was alive none the less.
And their first encounter had been infuriating. He was so...frustrating! Of course, Cricket had rather thrust them into this little discussion in a locked bathroom, so there was little to nothing Lanthe had been able to do, but talk to him. As it was...It didn't go as bad as it could have. It went a bit better if for no other reason than Lanthe had just felt the death of her niece's son.
No matter what Lanthe wished, she was still in love with Ciro. It was strange, at times, because so was Cricket. And yet the two of them were good friends, even joking about Ciro now and then. It didn't hurt so much now as it used to.
Her mind wandered again as she paced, to the little side job she was doing for Burgoo, searching out suitable girls for the Du'Mont house. He was paying her very well, and she was going to use the gems and such for her twins. Her twins, not her's and Ciro's because he had denied them his fathering a long time ago. Even though he did give Kett a colt before disappearing. Ah! There went her mind again, side tracked. She scowled at all of that side tracking and scuffed her boot on the rug. Well. She might as well go to sleep, or she'd be up all night wearing a hole in the rug.
Readying for bed, she crawled into the feather and silk and furs, snuggling down and trying to relax. There was simply too much in her head, and it seemed like as she lay there, it spun faster. There was a war happening with Shai and that wolf pack. Kett was learning the arcane arts, and had talked of trying to bring back Ambyr or Krendal, or both. Why couldn't people just let people die! Her hand went to her throat and she caressed the scars there. Why couldn't she have just let herself die was a better question. Ciro had nearly succeeded in removing her head, leaving enough for Ianthe to work her magic, on purpose. Then there was that fool...oh Lanthe couldn't even remember his name. Only that he too had tried to take her head, but failed. She'd done the minor healing herself that time. Took her much longer than it took Ianthe, but she was not going to be indebted to the Shadow Dragon any more than she already was. And with the thoughts raging through her head and fuming in her heart, she fell into a fitfull sleep.

Markus had sent her a message to meet him at the Godspeed Tavern. Now if she could just get away from all the eyes of the villa, she would soon know what Charles was up. Like usual Nessa didn't take into consideration all the dangers this might entail, or even the fact the message might not have come from Markus, didn't even stop to think it was a bit unusual that Markus would place her in such danger.Just hellbent as uaual to find trouble.
The guards at the gate were no problem as she just curtly ordered them to mind their post, it was not unusual for Nessa to do as she pleased. But now Shard was another matter altogether, though she watched the night sky for signs of the huge beast, she was not so sure even though she never spotted him that his eagle eyes were not watching her. She would just have to trust he was busy mating or munching on a side of beef somewhere.
The Godspeed tavern was a run down little establisment on the east of town, a hang out for thieves and thugs. Nessa had at least had the foresight to arm herself before starting on this little adventure. She had had new leathers made to fit over her ever swelling tummy, the linen poets shirt more or less hid her pregnany from casual view. From the far side of the street she stood in the shadows watching the tavern and its activity till she was sure there was no immediate danger. Her casual stroll acrossed the dusty street was watched by two pair of intent eyes, unknown to her.
~w~ that be our mark..aye?
~w~ shadup ye fool, afore she hears ya
Before she even reached the worn, dirty boards of the walkway four pair of very strong hands tried to grasps her from behind, it was obvious they had expected little resistance, Nessa immediatetly dropping and spinning as the wicked dagger was pulled from its sheath about her left thigh, a deep slash sent acrossed the leg of one assailant as she rolled in the dirt road to get a better stance, a slow smile spreading as she heard his scream knowing the blade had found its mark. Her pleasure was short lived as she stood facing the two huge thugs, muderous rage in the eyes of the one whose right leg was bleeding profusely. But never let it be said that Nessa didn't have heart, though that heart was near pounding out of her chest right at the moment.
~g~ well what are you waiting for...if theres anything left of you give my regards to Charles..
She was prepared for the move, dropping and rolling between them as they both growled and lunged at her, her blade posed for the unhurt one, only to hear her own cry as the flesh of her right upper arm was laid open by one of their blades. She came to a crouched stance behind the two thughs as they began their spin to face her again. She was never quite sure of exactly what happened next, all she could see was a flurry of feathers, men and blood. The lights of the taven depicted the scene as drunken occupants poured out of the tavern doors to see what all the blood curdling screams were about. When the dust had settled, Shard stood posed in the middle of what only now seemed to be two bloodly pulps. Well what was a girl to do? Nessa stared hard at Shard for a moment, finally clutching her right arm to staunch the flow of blood.
~g~ Jesus..Shard...I had things under control...
She thought about refusing the wing that was lowered for her and walking back to the villa, but a few curt chirps from Shard left little doubt he meant to see her home. Wenching as she used her wounded arm to climb upon his back she muttered without much hope of the damn beast agreeing.
~m~ I don't see why Burgoo or Cricket have to know about this...

Charles..she worried over his impending visit like a dog with a bone. On one hand, she was hesitant to step in and override Nessa on anything..but on the other, every instinct she had told her this was apt to be dangerous..to Nessa and her unborn child. ..She was almost glad when Saji told Burgoo, that Nessa was in trouble. The girls devotion to him was unquestionable. She was relieved when Burgoo agreed to let Nessa handle it in her own way..but Charles, was never going to reign at the House Du'Mont, not while there was breath or life in Cricket and Burgoo.
She wished for perhaps the millionth time, that Ciro was here for this. It made her smile to think how he would have handled this Charles. ..the whole thing was right up his alley. As always, thoughts of Ciro weighed heavily on her shoulders, and put her in a bit of a foul mood.
The mood was still with her the following early morning, when before daylight, she opened the Travelers Roost.
A private venture of hers, she had just opened its doors a few days past..it was outside of RhyDin, it was for the most part quiet, and secluded..and more importantly, it was hers. She decided as she took ownership, that she would make it an honest place of business, for travelers such as she had been, to feel at home for at least a night. Little did she know, that it would turn her life upside down.
Irony, had always been an intricate part of her life, and it continually smacked her in the face when she least expected it. As was the case, when the Kindred, Sho, walked in her door. He had a striking resemblance to Shinjo, in the way he moved, and his asian eyes. She was instantly drawn to him..as she was wont to do..against better judgement, she flirted with death once more.
Death was not to come to her though..not this time..but to an innocent child..and the blood of it would stain her hands forever.
Some things, were simply too brutal for a precariously balanced mind to accept..and this..this horrendous, pointless act..was too much for Cricket. Much too much..and it was pushed to the furthest back reaches of her mind..ignored, boxed, and bricked up..she blocked the entire thing out, forgot it, ignored it. ..and she went on, as she always did, would always do.
Addiction would be her thorn, and her rose, as it would be to Sho.. and both..would be crimson.
A deep shadowed and bloody secret..never to be spoken, never to be seen..a lethal ghost that whispered secretly in the dark..and left long scars upon the soul.

The worry of the beast was a thing of the past. The early days of spring now slipping away into the warmth of summer. Nessa took great delight in her world at this time, as her belly grew rounder and fuller with Burgoo's child, she grew more and more content to allow the beauty and peace of the villa to bathe her in happiness. A false security, perhaps. Little touched her from the outside world, it was if they existed in a fantasy of their own making. She spent her days with Saji and Lena, watching the younger girls at play. Burgoo and Cricket came and went, their stories of the world outside the villa seeming as if they came from a book and were not real, but a story weaved by a storyteller. Nessa was overly excited, as she had word from a cousin she had yet to meet, Aldria, her mother's sister's only child. She had married her Baron, and they were coming for a visit. The villa was turned upside down as it was prepared for the visit. No corner, no nitche left untouched by a cleaning rag. Saji, Lena, nor Cricket could calm her in her excitement as she supervised the servants and Gilda in preparing for this momentous occasion. The only to mar her excitement was that Charles was also to visit, she wondered how him, Burgoo, and Cricket would get along...Life was never dull at Du'Mont anymore, but secretly Nessa loved it...for once more, good or bad, Du'Mont had life....

Yes, fear of the beast was diminished, and she came and went from the chateau..for days missing Nessa or the girls..for everyone seemed in such a bustling hurry about the place. She was shooed from a harried servant, after stepping on freshly mopped floors, stood blinking to see her feathered bed stripped of sheets, and rather like the underfoot dog, she tried to stay out of the way, lest She be put to work.
She did manage to corner Gilda, and talk her into making a stew for her new tavern, as well as a few loaves of bread, and was given it with a hurried brusque manner, that Gilda could just get back to work.
Cricket knew that family was coming..a subject touchy for her..but until the cleaning was done, and the new guests had arrived, she spent most of her time at her new tavern.
It gave her a place to get away to, and a safer place than the chateau to conduct business.
She wished she could have spent more time with Nessa, alone, or with Saji..but she could wait.
Nessa was so skittish with the many tasks at hand, it was impossible to get her to sit for more than a few moments, and she seemed unable to fathom Crickets tales of days passing.
Truth be told..Cricket was highly nervous at meeting Nessas family..and as the cleaning and sprucing of the chateau went on..she slipped off to the new tavern, or the slave markets, or the docks.
Life at Du'Mont was to say the least. Interesting.

The Beast R'Auco..solid black from wing to taloned appendange. She had met it at the cages, a week or so ago..its long arm extended into the cage after a mouthy girl. She had watched, amused, for a time, until it asked her with wicked black eyes to get the girl out for him.
She had..and in exchange had asked a favor, to be decided upon another time. The Beast agreed, and they parted ways.
It sniffed her down a few days later, but she bid him give her leave and he had.
Little did she know, that he would sniff her down again..and this time, at the Chateau.
It had come, it said, to know the favor she wanted. She had bartered, his protection was what she wanted, for her, and those she called hers. Agreement was yet to be made..for he showed interest in the House, and wished to be invited in.
She could just imagine the screams of the girls and the shocked look on Nessas face should she bring a Beast sauntering in in the middle of the afternoon. She agreed, but managed to set the date for the next day. That would give her time to prepare Nessa, get the girls out of the house, and call Shard. Not to mention just where in Zeuses name was she going to find a live deer for its lunch.
It left the way it had come, promising to return on the morrow, though she was almost certain it would be sneaking around in the middle of the night.
She couldnt get into the house fast enough, and when Nessa found her in the garden, Shard was already circling overhead.
She told Nessa all that had happened, and Nessa agreed to send the girls to the beach the following day. Cricket just wished Nessa would go with them..for her own safety, but this was her House. They probably both should have told Burgoo, but Cricket knew he would kill her for bringing this danger upon his women..and she didnt want the Beast to wind up dead either. He could be a very valuable asset..if she could just keep everyone from getting mawled in the process and keep Burgoo in the dark until dinnertime tomorrow.
She left, to scout the grounds, to make sure the Beast was not lurking in the brush, and Shard had been sent to do the same from the sky, and not to leave until this was over.
They would see tomorrow..when the Beast R'Auco..
came for lunch at the House Du'Mont.

Nessa had been very sick, more so then even she had guessed. She lay curled in the chaise, letting the cool sea breezes take the unusual warmth from her flesh. She had sent the young girls away, their innocent chatter annoying her. She longed for Burgoo, but had not seen him in several days. As if her thoughts reached him he was suddenly there, only she would come to learn it was not her longing but the woman she thought of as an enemy, that had made sure Burgoo knew of her sickness. In more pain than she would ever care to remember, Burgoo had taken over, sending Saji running for what was needed. Between the two of them, the babe was repositioned and wrapped in a magic bubble that protected it as well as Nessa. The child of a geena was not exactly healthy for a human, Burgoo would remember this in the furture and protect his girls accordingly. The rest of the evening brought Nessa more and more glowing health, she doubted she had ever felt this good. She did a lot of thinking that night as she wandered the halls of the villa, and before the sun touched the morning horzion, and sleep found her, she had made a decision...a decision that would affect all their lives perhaps...
The Sun had not been up for long when she was dressed in her leathers, though the lacings had to be loosely tied over her swelling belly, white poets shirt, boots of soft kidskin, and hair tied back. The only one to see her leave the villa was Gaston who seemed to sleep at his post my the door, but with a wave of her hand that she desired no speech, she was gone, heading to town to act on the decision that was made during her wandering hours of the night.
She had damn near searched every tavern and Inn in the small town, before she came to her last hope. The old seaside tavern looked deserted, so deserted that not even the insects wanted to stick around, but Nessa entered just the same, and much to her surprise found whom she sought. Cricket sat perched upon a barstool, that didn't look much like it could hold its own weight let alone hers. One woman determined, the other weary, they spent the next couple of hours in that dusty, rundown tavern, and the amazing thing, not one ounce of blood was spilled. When they departed though those rickety doors to the midmorning sunshine, Cricket was no longer just the Du'Mont slave trainer, but a viable member of the family, she was to have her own private suite of rooms at the villa, all would know she was the "New" Lady of Du'Mont and would have as much authority as Burgoo or Nessa had, well at least Nessa...Burgoo was another matter. The remaining hours of the morning and early afternnon was spent on the private balcony as they stuffed their faces with the delicious fair from Gilda's kitchen and came to know one another a bit better. Change was in the air, for Nessa and those of Du'Mont....

She had stood and watched the ill Nessa depart from the market with Lena, and was still standing there minutes later after they had gone. She felt ill herself at having been the cause of this pregnant womans spell..though she knew the problem was what this child was. She had already made her decision to leave..there was no changing it.
She turned, and to the old Dockside she went, where a missive was penned for Burgoo. It was woefully inadequate, but it was all she could do. She only hoped he got to her in time. Shard was called, and the missive delivered..and she, went back to the cabin.
It was a long walk back that day, and she had much time to think. Her heart ached for Ciro, worried constantly that he was dead..but she was oh so weary of grieving..she would push it to the back of her mind each time his face was remembered. Spending another night in those walls, built by his hand, alone, was just too much for her to endure, and so, with the moon shining down, she called for Shard to return her, after the horses were fed.
The Dockside tavern was her refuge the next day, and at its crumbling bar she sat, watching light play off the broken glass, a silver flask in her hand, and drifting in and out of brooding thought. She did not expect Nessa to walk in..but there she was. Relief came to see that at least, she was healthy. Burgoo had gotten there in time.
She was not angry at this woman..only deeply scarred and unwilling to do battle again. She was tired. No angry words were exchanged that day, no blood shed..and Nessa had offered her something that was impossible for Cricket to refuse. A family..a real family. The one thing Cricket had strived for her entire life..was now, once more, tenuously within her reach. She agreed to try.
She was a survivor after all.
She accompanied Nessa back to the chateau, and over one of those awesome meals, got to know each other a little better. Burgoo would interrupt their talk though, and oh, was he suprised to find Cricket now a resident. He had been trying to get her to move in for years. She left the two shortly after that, to return to the cabin once more..but again, she could not stay in that empty place alone, with Ciros ghost whispering in her sleep.
Shard, was called again.
To the chateau, the ride on the griffon was horrendous as usual..but once there, he left her swiftly, and she turned to find only a single candle burned in the front window.
Inside she crept, cautious, to find noone about, the single candles light casting a glow over a deep burgundy dress, with the finest of rubied jewels near. She thought at first it was a test..to see if she would steal from her new house..and so about to leave it untouched, she turned only to find Nessa and Burgoo smiling, and welcoming her with both gift and heart.
That night, she spent with Nessa..Burgoo prudently slipping away. Sweet Nessa...things would work out between them.
Over the next few days, she moved in more completely, met the staff, and some of the children..and although she at times, still felt like she was intruding..she warmed to this house quickly, and already, she would have protected it and those within it, with her life.

The morning had started out good, unusual for Nessa these days. No sickness had marred her early rise. A lovely morning spent on the balcony with the girls, Saji close by her side. The soft sea breezes had given color to all their cheeks. The little ones, Abby and Lizzy runing off to play in the private garden, with Lena close on their heels to watch, leaving Saji and Nessa alone. How close they were becoming as the lazy days of spring turned into summer. The visit was unexpected, it had only been a few days sense Nessa had first met Cricket De La Rogue...Burgoo's wife. Yet here she was again. Nessa felt on the defensive with this unusual woman, and not soon after her arrival things went from bad to worse. Unpleasant words were exchanged between them, Cricket leaving angry, Nessa stewing, Saji trying to calm her. The morning was saved from disaster when Saji and Nessa went riding along the coast, their close relationship only becoming deeper as they talked and laughed together. It was not till later that afternoon that Nessa was once more to meet up with Cricket. She had taken Lena and went to the market square, running into Cricket while shopping the open tents. Again they faced off...one no more willing to give then the other...it was only after Nessa became ill that perhaps things began to change between them. Time will tell if these two strong women, that are connected to the same man, will cement a relationship...for now Nessa'a illness a tenitive bond between them.

Burgoo had come to her, and asked her to take up the position of slave trainer to the House Du'Mont. A generous offer..that she had at first refused.
She should have known..oh yes..that such things would turn out badly, but with Ciros absence..solitude weighed heavy upon her, and she longed for something to do.
That had been the reason she had accepted..that..and she thought perhaps, now that Moon was gone, she might be able to claim her rightful place as Burgoos wife. She was as great a fool as she had always been, and Cynessa had only reminded her of it.
Still, she had tried, to make a go of it..but in her three visits with Cynessa, each time, she had brought the pregnant woman to a rage. Not really intentional, in truth, she had wanted no more than acceptance.
She was ill equipped to come off well in the presence of any nobility however, and it scathed her to realize that she wasnt any more accepted now, than she had been with Moon.
She might have stayed anyway, her stubborn determination there to claim her place..but even she, would not inflict more harm upon an unborn child.
The last day, was hard on her. She had lifted her chin, taken a deep breath, and forced that flashed grin on her tiers, to enter the chateau, and act as if she belonged there. It was prudent that she left when she did, that no blood was spilled. Cynessa detested and feared her presence there..it was thick in the air between them.
Later, the same day, when she had seen Cynessa in the market..she had not been angry at the woman. Quite the contrary, she understood her better than the woman thought. She was deeply hurt at the rejection, although she did not show it, and grieving again the loss of Willow and now Ciro. Her presence again, had the worst effect upon the pregnant woman, and Cynessa beame ill. That had scared her..deeply, that she would be the cause of yet another childs death. She knew then, that the only thing she could do, was what she had done before. Leave.
Nessa was turned over to the capable hands of Lena, and Cricket watched them depart. Noone would know the weight she carried on her shoulders, as the miles back out of town were traversed.
Her life was drawing to a close, that knowledge had draped around her like a cloak, and she embraced it, weary of being alone, weary of being rejected.
Still, some part of her wanted to survive..for that was what she was, a survivor, and so it was that the days would pass in a blur of one after the other, and she would travel back and forth from town to Ciros, always hoping that he might return, and when in town, avoiding the Chateau, and those within it
