Can anyone tell me exactly how the linotype keyboard was arranged? It appears that one unfortunate consequence of substituting desktop computer technology for professional typesetting is that typesetting is today done with the QWERTY keyboard layout. That layout was originally designed to be inefficient: to slow down the typist so that the metal pieces that imprinted the letters wouldn't tangle.
