On August 24, 2001, a colleague of mine, the owner of Eastern Printing Co. in Baltimore, MD traveled to Phila. PA to purchase a Model 8 Linotype Machine (which is in excellent condition) that was destine for the scrape yard, if it's owner couldn't find a new home for it. I think my friend paid $300 for it. He got the lead for this machine from a printer down in Tennesse who's sole mission is to save as many linotype machines from death as he can. My friend has been a hot metal man since the 1960's and has run a linotype in his business continually until his present machine's metal pot gave out about a year ago. He has been on the lookout for a replacement ever since. He uses the machine to cast linotype slugs used for imprinting carbon-leaf forms on a Heidelburg Windmill Press.
