Subject: The thing is, the Oireachtas as we know it is NOT taking place... this year's event will be much different.
In reply to: A non selfish parent. 's message, "Here is the problem with this “you do you but we are going it will be safe”. It is not safe. This virus is dangerous to a lot of people. And while you and your dance may be fine, others you spread it to may not be. It sickens me to think an event of this size will be going on. It is wrong and extremely selfish of those who are willing to participate." on 06:01:40 11/04/20 Wed

My family plans to attend, with our 2 dancers and 2 parents total. For us, there will be zero socializing with others. Dancers will be brought to the halls with their 1 adult in pods (I'm guessing around 30 at a time, like the number check group size). These ballrooms are huge amounts of space (both volume and square footage) so we'll have excellent air flow. There is no reason for my dancers to come in direct physical contact with another dancer or teacher. We will all be wearing masks. No celebrating with friends at awards ceremonies. No group practice sessions the night before or morning of; everything will be done in solitude with our family unit.

My family has erred on the side of caution for all of this; we believe in science. We have quarantined when instructed and will need to quarantine when we get home from the O. We wear masks. My children attend virtual school. Their only contact with friends is at dance or other closely monitored activities, with mask and social distancing protocols in place.

This virus is not going away in 2020 and maybe not even in 2021. While I do not wish to spread the virus, I do not think it is healthy for teens (or humans of any age) to be completely isolated for 6, 9, 12, 18 months?!?! Or however long this is going to continue. Our family has decided to move ahead with any activity we can safely participate in, and the 2020 Oireachtas will be one of them.

I also respect the concerns of others and understand some of us are willing to take more risk than others. I do think Americans have been pretty selfish and greedy about alot of things and I worry about our path with this virus, but in the end have to do what I feel is best for my family. As do you!

This is life and death and on optics alone, when the state is begging for more healthcare workers to come down, allowing something like this makes no sense. -- ., 17:07:45 11/17/20 Tue (NoHost/172.58.139.194)
