Subject: Push next week’s Oireachtas back to Spring 2021 for a safer AND World Qualifying event

Since Worlds has been pushed back from April to late July, could Mid-America lobby An Coimisiún to extend the deadline for Regional Oireachtas to be recognized as a World Qualifying Event from Jan. 31 to April 30, 2021? That way, our dance community could do its part to stop the spread of COVID next week and still have a World Qualifying event at a later date. It would also give the Oireachtas committee 5 months to work out any changes with venues, hotels, judges, etc. to plan a safe event when hopefully the worst of COVID will be behind us.

Given all the disappointments this year with the cancellation of Worlds, NANs and other majors and now the Mid-America Oireachtas NOT being a World Qualifying event, our dancers need something to look forward to and to continue working towards in the months to come. If Mid-America could work with other regions around the world to get the powers that be to extend the World Qualifying event deadline ASAP and determine the required dances for each age group for a Spring Oireachtas, NANs, Worlds and the fall Oireachtas, teachers and dancers could get back to work doing what they love.

I fully understand everyone's concern with the current status of COVID, however, no one is forcing anyone to attend. If a family is not comfortable with the arrangements and safety measures put in place for the upcoming event, they can opt-out. If people are comfortable, then by all means attend and use general caution as you would anywhere else. It is disappointing it is no longer a "qualifying" event but we need to make the best of it, considering the last minute notice of the change. If there is one thing we should all have learned from COVID is how to be flexible and adaptable, even if the circumstances are not ideal. I think everyone should do what they feel most comfortable with and what is best for their family. Don't judge if you do, or do not attend.

[> [> Of course I will judge when people take risks with my life and others’ lives. It’s not a case of you do you and not affecting others. You will surely expose people upon return, at the venue etc. It’s like second-hand smoke. Don’t mind smokers, but don’t smoke by me. -- ., 20:25:33 11/18/20 Wed (NoHost/172.58.139.194)
