Subject: How is this even a question? Nearly every feis I've ever been to runs raffles to raise money, sometime to cover feis costs, sometimes to support teams traveling to majors. A school might do the same on it's own, hosting fundraising dinners or having a raffle as part of a ceili.
In reply to: ID MOM 's message, "Notice for profit irish dance business running raffles, isn’t that illegal? Just asking wanted to enter then realized it’s not legal and all involved can be penalized, is this correct ?" on 14:44:05 12/01/20 Tue

[> It’s a question because it’s NOT legal! If you are a business you cannot run a raffle, it’s a disguise for profit and nothing more than asking for a handout. It’s BAD BUSINESS. Raffles as a feis are run by non for profit booster clubs - not an actual business. If a business is looking for a handout they should be using a platform as earlier suggested such as Go Fund Me, etc . -- No name, 12:49:58 12/03/20 Thu (NoHost/66.113.234.87)

[> [> Is it really that big of a deal to you during this time? Take a deep breath Karen and relax. No one is forcing you to buy a raffle ticket. I think most would agree that this company has been generous of their time and support to many schools in Mid-America. This time is not easy for anyone - especially small business. -- Scroll by ..., 17:08:58 12/03/20 Thu (CENTRAL-STA.ear2.Chicago2.Level3.net/4.30.10.202)

[> [> [> YES!!! 1000% agree with you. Pretty sure creating an illegal raffle was not the MO, but rather staying in business is as well as having a little fun and creating some cheer in this sucky year. OP - Don't like it? Scroll by & don't participate. It really is that simple. -- No name, 11:37:41 12/04/20 Fri (c-24-12-119-115.hsd1.il.comcast.net/24.12.119.115)

[> [> [> [> Exactly! Schools are struggling to keep afloat period with dancers retiring left & right due to Covid. Seriously, who cares if a school is offering a raffle to cover some of their expenses? The OP is being an annoying busybody who feels compelled to stick her nose in other people's business. -- Get a life Karen!, 14:55:08 12/06/20 Sun (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)
