The tape is likely to be binding inside the cassette housing. You can try loosening the five screws holding it together 1/4th turn each. Also make sure that the tape is evenly wound on the spools. As a last resort, you can buy some new blank tapes, open them up, and move the old tape into the new cassette. [This is a delicate operation, and a pair of surgical tweezers will be handy.]
