There is a plastic mount that holds a coil spring which helps hold the pinch roller/ head assembly tight against the tape cassette when play in engaged. To access for repair you need to remove the tape deck from the caddy. Carefully unplug the tape cable from the playback board. Remove the 4 screws from under the tape caddy and lift the tape deck out, threading the cable out of the bench and caddy. Remove the knobs on the front of the deck. Pull them off. You will see four screws on the bottom of the deck, They are of different lengths, so make note as you remove them. Gently pry the deck cover from the front, work it off the unit. When you get it open you may see the broken plastic support and the spring on the right portion of the tape head sliding assembly. Remove them. Temporary fix: Place your cassette adapter in the transport, push play, wedge a small piece of cardboard or whatever of sufficient thickness to hold the tape head slider mechanism firmly against the pick-up on the cassette adapter head. Plug the deck back into the playback board add knobs and enjoy the music. Final fix: Contact the other guys (David Sposto) on the site who said they had some easy fixes for the spring mount. Once you make final repairs, test it out with a tape and with the cassette adapter, before you totally reassemble the whole works, to make sure you have enough spring tension to drive and hold the head/pinch roller slider mechanism to its full travel.
