In reply to: David Schoerner 's message, "tape deck quit playing" on 10:41:38 12/15/04 Wed

1) Make sure that the capstan and pinch roller are clean and free of any oxide buildup.

2) Inspect the cassettes to see if the tape is evenly wound on the spools. Any binding will slow the tape down and prevent playback.

3) Loosen the five screws holding the cassette together about 1/4 turn to relieve any excess pressure.

4) There is a spring which applies slight pressure to the playback head when it's in the play position. It is held by a plastic post which very often breaks. See messages on this forum about a possible fix.
