Subject: How to evaluate a long dormant system?

I was contacted today by a hotel that has a Wurlitzer Pianocorder grand from around 1985, wanting to know if it can be upgraded to play from, say, an MP3 player. I think I can probably sell them a wireles upgrade kit, but it seems like a good idea to inspect the installation to see if there are problems other than the cassette deck, which I assume is probably inoperative. Is there a way I can determine basic system functionality without there being an operative tape deck?
