Filrobb Discusses Those Ugly Pixies

Haha! Sorry you didn't like the Pixies sketches Malynn. I'm glad to hear a few people out there liked the direction I was heading. But like Stellerex said, they are still works in progress.
My original thought was to try and move as far from the typical pixie imagery as possible...the first try was the little devilish looking pixies, which was cool, but probably too much, plus I was stomping around in territory that I wanted to take the Gargoyles...

Which led to their current state...a much softer version of the "devil" pixie. I was going for child-like or gnomish. Well, the latest versions haven't gone over as well as I had hoped, so I will be working on them some more very soon...the trick is to make them beautiful like everyone wants them to be, but not small elves with wings!

I'll be checking in occasionally looking for art opinions...post away!

New Poll - Vote for your Favorite Monster! (Now CLOSED)

From all the players input on new monsters received so far, we have created a new poll here on UX:O Stratics. Presented are the "top-ten-monsters" that caught most of the designers attention.
The monster receiving the most votes will actually make it into the game, so make sure to vote now!

Calandryll posted the following information regarding the monster poll to a thread in Avatar's Corner:

I wanted to give you all some more details about the monsters in the poll (a swarm monster means it will attack in large packs):

Succubus – name says it all

Dark Wisp – balls of light, (swarm monster)

Phantom – floating armor perhaps with a glowing particle effect where the body would normally be

Plant Creature – a mobile plant monster, could be either a large imposing monster or a small swarm monster

Manitite – monster race based on a praying mantis

Manticore – mythology monster

Pixie Dragon – small dragon with butterfly wings (swarm monster)

Phoenix – fire bird, use lots of particles

Ghost – translucent, very creepy looking undead

Insect Swarm – either one large object that looks like a swarm of insects, or a bunch of really low poly insects that we can use as a major swarm creature

We also chose 3 more monsters that we are sending to our art staff to put in the game in addition to the monster that wins the poll. Along with the comments we gave the artists, the include:

Seeker.
Ultima 8 monster. The seeker’s body section should be emphasized as being the nerves and vessels behind the eye that’s the “snake” part of it. I.e. it should be gruesome. Should be about 4 feet in length. Animations should keep a lot the monster half-upright so it comes up to the chest of the character, even when moving. Kind of exaggerating the way a cobra moves, but with less of the body on the ground.

Grim Reaper.
Not the actual Grim Reaper, more like something based on the idea. Would be nice to have the shroud be tattered and really have some character to it, and maybe get some evil red glowing eye action. Definitely stay away from anything cheesy looking.

Another Demon.
We saw a lot of requests for another demonic monster. Would like to get this guy to be really horrific in addition to being big and imposing. The current demon is cool, very demonic, and imposing, but he’s not grotesque or horrific (which is fine, but we'd like to have at least one demon that really makes people go OH MY GOD! in reaction, with that sort of “gross! Freaky! Aigh!” feeling). No wings is a good idea as well, make him look very different from the current demon.
