Scam Policy Update Dec 6 2001 6:00PM CST (GMT -06:00)

In the past, Game Masters have acted as intermediaries in calls where players have misused game systems to take advantage of others. Unfortunately, this has led to increased call times due to the extreme difficulty in determining the truth of these matters. However, since the implementation of secure house trading, commodity deeds and repair service contracts, we have noticed a significant reduction in scam calls to our support department.

With the success of these new systems, we plan to discontinue our policy of dealing with scams on a case-by-case basis as of Monday, December 10th. We will no longer mediate trust issues in-game, and we encourage all players to protect themselves by reading our new document on Scam Prevention found here. Any abuse of game mechanics to scam another player will be treated as an exploit, and we will address these at their source, as we would any development-related exploit. We hope this will ultimately free up the significant amount of time Game Masters have to spend on scam calls, allowing them to focus on addressing more service needs and lowering the overall wait-times that players experience when requesting assistance.

In addition to familiarizing yourself with these recent game system additions (see links below), don’t forget to read our Scam Prevention document, which will help you avoid being caught in a possible scam situation. Game masters will not replace items lost through scams, so be sure to educate yourself on the best ways to keep your gold and your items safe!
