I don't think anything is truly simulant to God, nor do I think anything can be made in His image. A subset of infinity is still infinite and supremacy can have no equal. At best, we might be made to have a quality or substance that God does (some would say "the ability to think or reason", I'd say its probably nothing so specific or finite... if we possess an attribute of God, I would place that attribute in the intagible and divine--a soul, or the substance of soul).
As for God being conscious? I can only break that down into "Is God self-aware?" To that I can affirm. Yes, God would be aware of Himself and possess the ability to refer to Himself (if that is even a meaningful idea) as an "I" without predication... independant of His parts or programming.
