Very strange, actually. When New York and surrounding regions were blacked out, it was the first time I'd heard of an electricity brakdown of that scale. A week ago the same thing happened to the southern half of Sweden and almost all of Denmark at once. And yesterday all of Italy except Sardinia was blacked out!

This is of course no coincidence! So what the dickens (*1) is going on? Electroterrorism? (*2) Overconsumption of energy, like the environmentalists have warned? Or is mother nature getting back at us, considering storms and the fact that Italy's problem was a single tree that fell over THE power line?

*1) "What the dickens" is a PC expression we learnt in school, probably meant to replace some harsh word. But I've never seen it used anywhere else, so I find it funny. Have any of you ever heard anyone say "what the dickens"? Come to think of it, even though we were probably no more than ten or eleven years old by the time we learnt the phrase, I can remember the whole class found it hilariously useless even then!

*2) Oh my, that's a delightful word! Reminds me of Einstürzende Neubauten: "Welcome to electro smog therapy". Ooooo....
