Before I rant, has anyone heard from Katy. Hope that she is doing well. Prayers are in the offering here.

From the start of my diagnosis[79'], I have heard how insignificant viral load is. If that is the case, then why is it used as a yardstick to measure wheter or not one is infected. It all sounds so absurd.

Three factors in my particular case alarm me. Over 40 at time of contraction, male, high viral load = 10,000,000. If this measurement is so insignificant, then why bother to use it at all. Something is amiss here me thinks. One either has the virus or one doesn't. Same with the testing that only mesaures the disease down to a particular marker. What is the point? More virus, more advanced the disease process I presume.

My Physicians assistant has sent my PCP a letter lauding how well I responded to treatment. How can this be accurately ascertained without a follow up biopsy. Please, if only they could tell the truth for once. They haven't got a clue. New disease, new diagnos each week.

What is going on here, Who's kidding who? The truth will set them [me, we] free. Damnit![lol] Just don't care anymore. Gonna die anyway someday, no matter what they do or don't do. TRUTH!

Elucidation from one more knowledgeable [Susie]would be of great comfort to me. I have lost faith in the medical profession in general, and seek healing from a Greater source.

I think viral load is considered to be not all that indicative of severity because there doesn't seem to be a consistent corrolation between viral load and symptoms, for one thing. Some that have a very high load may be experiencing relatively mild symptoms, while others with very low loads sometimes experience rather severe symptoms. My thoughts on the subject alone and certainly open to debate or correction. Bottom line - there's still sooo much to be learned. I wish you well my friend....t

I would also have to agree with T,My symptoms seem to be very strong.But yet I'm 3a with VL of 483.300.I think the whole thing matters on how long you have had it and your liver condition.

Terry's response to you was the same one I would make. I could go further and say that viral load makes no difference in the severity or progression of the disease either. It is to confirm the presence of chronic HCV and to monitor treatment. It may not be perfect but it is the only thing we have. It's insignificantcy has nothing to do with the fact that it is a yardstick to measure whether one has HCV in it's chronic form.

Also, if you are PCR negative, then you did respond well to treatment. You don't need a biopsy to tell you that. Biopsy can tell if there was a histological response in someone who has not been a virological responder. I really do not think anyone is being untruthful with you. Your presumption with more virus more advanced disease is faulty at best.

As for the things that concern you, they concern me too. The only thing I have in my favor is that I acquired the virus at age 21 and I'm a female. Other than that, I am a non-responder, with cirrhosis, who has had this disease for 35 years. BUT, I am not going to borrow trouble by worrying about it. I'll worry when there is something to worry about. That does NOT mean you or I should go into denial. You need to take care of yourself, keep your doc appointments and do what they say. It's the worry that is what you have control over. The factors that make you a have a good prognosis or a poor one, you can do nothing about.

SO WE GO UP THERE AND RELIEVE TIMS SISTER THAT LIVES CLOSE BY, SHE HAS POWER OF ATTY OVER FINANCES FOR THEM AND LAST TIME I HEARD THEY WERE FINALLY GOING TO TURN ALL POA OVER TO HER. IT IS DIFFICULT FOR HER SO WE TRY TO BE THERE AND HELP WHEN WE GET THE CHANCE. TIM HAS A BROTHER THAT LIVES 3 HOURS AWAY BUT DOES NOT GO VISIT HIS PARENTS, THE OTHER TWO KIDS LIVE FAR AWAY, ONE IN ATLANTA, THE OTHER DENVER, SO OUT OF THE 5 KIDS MAINLY TWO OR THREE GO AND TAKE TURNS GIVING BONNIE A BREAK. THIS FAMILY REALLY NEEDS PRAYERS, THE CONDITIONS THAT DAD CHOOSES TO LIVE IN, ARE ABOMINABLE, HE IS STUBBORN AND A RETIRED MINISTER, SO YOU KNOW "HE IS RIGHT" POOR MOM GETS FED FOOD THAT HAS EXPIRED OR COMPLETELY DIED AND RETURNED IN ANOTHER FORM, TIMS DAD WILL NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY, SO I CATCH HIM NOT LOOKING AND CLEAN THE FRIDGE OUT WHEN I AM THERE. THEY ARE FROM THE GENERATION OF WASTE NOT, WHICH IS OK BUT THERE IS A LIMIT THERE TOO. I GUESS MOM GETS HER SHARE OF PENICILLIN IN THE NATURAL FORM, LOL. GOD REALLY LOOKS OVER HER.

my doc told me that you can not take any single phase of this disease and be able to tell where you stand. he said that you have to look at the overall picture.ie: viral load alone means nothing, stage and grade alone mean nothing etc etc. he sais as a doctor he makes his decision based on all the numbers and figures and facts. this is not to say that he is right or wrong ,but he put me at ease after finding out im stage 3 by explaning all this to me.im not the best info giver but i hope this might help......frank
