I then walked into Mementos stall and groomed him. I clipped on a long lunge line and led him outside. I jogged him around the outside of the arena until I thought he was ready to work. I then walked him to the end of the arena, and at a walk, let him out slowly. He circled around me, a little skittish at first so I broke him into a trot. He willingly took the opportunity and showed off his flashy trot, dancing around me. I was careful to keep the lunge line and the lunge whip in a triangle. I made him calm down a little, and then turned him around so he would build up his muscles evenly. I gave him the command to canter and instantly he was cantering smoothly. I watched as his magnificent strong body worked in time, never skipping beat. I slowed him down to a walk and worked him in this directing. I then made him trot again, this time an extended trot at first and after another few mins, back to a collected trot. He was quite calm and willing now, so I brought him back up to a canter, turned him around, and worked on him flying changes. I also tried to encourage him to change his leading leg at every stride, despite the fact we were working in circles. When I was satisfied he had worked enough I brought him back to a walk, and cooled him down. He took this opportunity to slowly walk around me, nodding his head in time. I gradually brought him in and gave him a good pat. He was a little sweaty still, so I mounted and bareback, walked him around in some figures until he was cool. I dismounted and lead him towards his paddock. I fed him a carrot, unclipped his lead line and let him run into the paddock. I slipped out and lent against the fence and watched him gallop and frolic in the paddock for a while. I waited until he began to graze and then I headed back towards the stables.
