*she walks down to the barns and opens the doors carefully. she hears a loud bang as the large stallion kicks the door of his stall and nickers impatiently, waiting to get his ears rubbed. she quickly walks to the horse's stall, muttering about how spoiled the stallion is. She feeds him and all the other horses, then cleans her stalls and the boarder's stalls. finally, she puts the stallion on cross ties to groom and saddle him. she grooms carefully, paying special attention to where the tack would rest. then she wraps his legs and puts the saddle and bridle on before leading him to the outdoor dressage ring. she mounts and warms up carefully, walking, trotting and cantering figure 8's and serpintines. the horse moves foward eargerly but perfectly collected and on the bit. once he is warmed up she begins to work on his counter canter. he was starting to get a little rusty and needed to do some work on it again. the first try he does not pick up the lead she asks for. the next time she asks harder and gets the lead. he takes a few strides to balance then finds his stride and canters easily along. after he does a good counter canter in each direction she exits the ring and heads to the trails. she puts the big gray stallion into a trot and lets him relax for a little while on the trails before turning back to the farm and slowing him to a walk to head home. she untacks him and bathes him thoroughly, letting the soapy water rinse away all the ring dirt, then turns him out for an hour while she cleans his stall and his tack. after she is done she brings the now completely dry stallion into the barn and grooms him carefully. then she puts him into the freshly bedded stall with a flake of hay. The horse eagerly munches on his hay. "Oh, you're so starved" Saddle tells the big horse. he looks at her for a moment, then goes back to his hay. She decides to ride Silver's colt, Trent and walks down to the paddock to get him. he snorts and trots away from her playfully, but Saddle was prepared for his antics. she pulls a sugar cube out of her pocket and holds it out. Soon the colt's desire for a treat forces him to walk to her. as he reaches out to grab the treat Saddle clips a red cotton lead to his leather halter and pats his neck. he swishes his tail and looks at her out of the corner of his eye, trying to decide whether to follow her or tear off in the other direction. Saddle holds out another sugar cube, then runs the chain over his nose, realizing that the colt was in a playful mood, then leads him to the barn. he shies at the leaves blowing in the wind, and jogs, snapping his knees up elegantly. Saddle grooms him, then changes her mind about riding as he yanks the brushes out of her hands and flings them across the barn isle. the colt wouldn't be able to be serious today, there was no point in riding him and forcing him to do things he didn't want to do. that would just spoil his sweet, willing disposition. She sighs and leads him to the equineciser. that would have to do for his workout for the day. she sets it to the speed of his trot and walks down to the paddock to get the newest addition to the farm, a stunning red roan thoroughbred mare. the horse walks straight up to the gate and allows Saddle to clip a lead to her halter. then Saddle leads her to the barns and grooms her carefully. Once all the dirt is out of the mare's coat Saddle tacks her up and leads her to the outdoor jumping ring, where Jessie, Maggie and Kylee are finishing practicing for the show. "Jessie, when you three are done riding, please take Trent off of the equinciser and turn him out for me. run the shank over his nose, he's pretty playful today" Saddle tells them. the three girls nod their heads, then each jump the course another time. "Mom, do you want me to help you with Shining before i school HC?" Mikki calls, walking up to the rail. "Sure, if you want to that would be wonderful" Saddle replies. "I want to try her over 3'3 today, and if she's good we'll try 3'6" Saddle continues. Mikki nods and sets up a course of jumps with heights ranging from 2'6-3'6. Saddle warms the mare up, doing large circles, figure 8's and serpentines. the mare throws her head and chews the bit impatiently. soon Saddle approaches the first fence, a 2' blue and red vertical. the mare canters up to the fence and flies over it easily. Saddle keeps her in a steady canter and heads her to the next fence, a 3' oxer. the mare springs easily over that fence, too. Saddle sits back and collects the mare for the next fences, a combination of fences with butterfly shaped standards, the heights going from 2'3-3'. Saddle squeezes with her legs lightly as the mare takes off for the first fences, the 2'3 vertical, then the 2'6 vertical, the 2'9 vertical and the 3' vertical. the mare clears all the fences easily, then heads to the next fence, set at 3'3. Saddle drives hard with her seat and legs and the mare lifts off and jumps over the white gate. Saddle turns the mare's head and canters to the next fence, a 2' oxer. the mare springs over it, then canter to the final fence, a 3'6 vertical, the highest the mare had ever jumped. she lifts off and powerfully jumps the fence, then lands and canters the closing courtesy circle. Saddle praises the mare and slows her to a walk. Shining throws her head and bucks, unhappy about slowing down. "Well, for a 3' max jumper, that mare has great form over 3'6 fences" Mikki comments. "She's only a 3' max jumper because she's never been tried higher than that. its not that she doesn't have the potential to do the fences, its that she's never done them before and the seller has to be honest about the horse's skills" Saddle explains to Mikki as she dismounts and runs up her stirrups. they walk to the barn, then Saddle untacks Shining and hoses her down before turning her out. *
