Susan walked into the barn aisle and breathed in the smell of horses. She walked into the office and opened a drawer. She pulled out a training schedule and observed it carefully. Trademark, Ava’s Morgan gelding, needed some jumping training. Susan noted that she had to do jump work with some of her horses as well. She briskly walked into the stable and slid open Trade’s stall door. The gorgeous dark gray gelding snorted happily and nuzzled her pocket, where she usually kept sugar cubes. She laughed and rubbed his neck. She led him into the aisle and got out her tack. After grooming him thoroughly, Susan slipped on her helmet and tacked him up. She led Trade out to the ring and swung into his saddle gracefully. He pranced as she gathered the reins and squeezed. He walked forward in a long smooth walk. Susan sat steadily and let her seat urge him forward. Trade relaxed and rounded his back under the assured seat. After walking each way and getting the gelding to bend, Susan asked for a trot. Trade marched steadily forward and Susan posted lightly. The gelding snorted and lunged into a canter as she sat and squeezed. She sat to his smooth floaty canter and performed some flying lead changes. Then she slowed the handsome gelding to a walk. They went to the jumping field and cantered a courtesy circle. They leapt smoothly over a 2’6” oxer. Susan urged him over a 3’ liverpool and a 2’3” spread. Then an upright, fake stone wall, coop, and a bounce fence. They headed for the final jumps, a triple combination. Trade cantered smoothly torward the triple and soared through it. Susan took him through the course again and smiled happily. He was improving so much! He was jumping with better form and concentrating. She took him on a quick trail ride and untacked him, pleased with his progress.
