* The roan mare's coat shines with care in the morning sunlight as Saddle leads her back in from the paddock to ride her. the mare walks calmly beside Saddle to the barn and stands nicely on the crossties to be groomed. Saddle gives her a piece of carrot, then tacks her up. Shining squeals unhappily as Saddle tightens the girth. "Oh, stop it, you mare" Saddle tells her irritatedly. Shining turns around and noses Saddle in apology, then lowers her head to be bridled. Saddle slips the bit into her mare's mouth, then grabs her riding crop and walks her to the indoor jumping ring. she mounts the mare and warms her up, walking, trotting and cantering around the ring, performing figure 8's, serpinties, circles and changes of rein. the mare warms up beautifully and Saddle can see her potential for dressage. After the shows the mare was entered in she would start her dressage training. Saddle looks through the challenging course, set at 3'6 and below and plans her approach to each jump, then slides her outside leg back and asks for a canter. the mare springs into an easy canter and soars over the first fence, a blue and white 2'9 wishing well. she canters boldly to the first combination, each fence set at 3' and decorated with dominoes. Shining flies over the combination without even blinking at the highly decorated fences. Saddle rates her a little heading to the 2'6 "water" jump. the bright blue tarp on the ground made a scary fence. Shining hesitates a little and Saddle clucks and squeezes with her legs firmly. the mare springs over the fence, over jumping it slightly. Then they head to the natural combination. all the fences were a plain brown and 3'6 in height. Shining jumps them all carefully, tucking her slender legs tightly. they head to the final fence, a 3'6 oxer. the mare surges over it, her ears foward. she throws her head in protest as Saddle turns her in a closing circle, praising her. then they walk down the trail to cool out. when they get back Saddle bathes her.
