I swung into the dressage saddle on The Winning Touch's back and sat down on it.Touch was one of the best jumpers I owned. He was a 7 y/o mahogany bay 16.1 hand Holsteiner stallion.Though Touch could jump 5 feet high and was capable of jumping higher, he was only doing 1st level dressage.Touch was a amazing jumper, but he also had the right movement for dressage.I squeezed my legs against Touch's sides and he walked off.Instantly, I got Touch working & on the bit.I sponged my hands on the reins and Touch came onto the bit.His movement was collected and his neck was arched beautifully.I walked touch around the dressage arena a few times and then got him to extend his walk.Touch lengthened his stride and threw his legs out when he walked.Touch's legs came far up when he walked and were completely straight.I got Touch to pick up a medium trot.He was working well and looked wonderful.I continued trotting Touch, keeping my legs tight against his sides, with my back straight & shoulders up with plent of contact on the rein.I got Touch to collect his stride and sat to smooth movement.Touch kept up a very collected and slow pace.I let Touch extend his stride and we were doing a extended trot.Touch kept his legs straight and flung them out as far as they could go.I sat deep in the saddle and gripped with my legs to keep from bouncing to much.I cued Touch to canter and he surged on.I slowed him down some and kept him at a medium canter.I let Touch canter for a little while before slowing him down to a collected canter.Touch was so collected that his canter would have been worthy as a western lope.I then got Touch to extend his canter after a few laps at the collected canter. After that, I slowed Touch down to a collected trot and then did some half-passes in both directions. Then, I moved Touch up to a collected canter and did some more half-passes in both directions. Then, I did some trot and canter circles and then walked Touch out.I dismounted and led him back to the stallions stable where I untacked him, gave him a peppermint and tuned him out in his own paddock. Then I walked to the mailbox to see if we had gotten any mail.
