The crisp morning air was sweet and warm. I stepped out of my house and walked over to the small stabling area in the large 400 acre land where I lived. Best whinnied a good morning to me as I went over to the big stallions stall. "Okay now, I got a call from your angry owner last night and I'm not happy with myself for leaving you here alone without riding you, either." I talked to him as I put on the lounge line, saddle, grabbed the bridle, and the lounging whip.
************************************************************
I flicked the whip behind Best's behind and he moved forward at a walk, I flicked it again and he started bucking and rearing. I reeled in the lounge line and he quit doing all that riff raff. I asked again for a trot, which he started to canter. Once again I reeled in the lounge line and he stopped. I asked for it again and he trotted, finally. When I asked for a canter, he cantered like he was an angel. I finished running through all his "traits" as Julia called them when I heard the phone ring. There was no way that I could reach it walking, nor running at my fastes speed, so I slipped on Bests bridle and hopped onto his back. He cantered to the gate, where I quickly opened it and hopped back on. Feeling my excitment, he rose up to a quick speed, I guess it was one of the Saddlebreds fastest. We got there just before the answering machine picked up.
"Hello?" I huffed.
"Well, finally!!" Helens voice laughed, then she got serious "Its Springs due date, right?"
"Yes, it is." I replied.
"Well, good, because shes about to foal and we need you here!" Helen said.
"Okaym I'll be there in a couple of minuets! Bye!" I hung up the phone and went to my car, which I forgot that Tavins was broken down and he used my car.
"Oh, Best! Can you get me there in time?" I asked to the horse. He nodded.
I vaulted onto his back and rode over to the road. Thank goodness that GRF was only 5 minuets away by car, but horse? I urged him to the grassy side of the rode and he got into it and started to hand gallop. In a couple of minuets I slid him to a stop and led him in at a walk. The foal was just starting to come out, thank gosh! Susan took Best to a stall in the stallion barn with my stallion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~When the foal was dried off, and drinking we all cooed at it.
"Come on guys and girls, we better go." Eric, Helens husband, said.
