Episode 1.01: 'Acqaintances'
· Giles and Emily meet for the first time.

EMILY
My name is Emily... Emily Page.

GILES
You're Deirdre's daughter?

· Giles and Emily sit around the table in his living room.

EMILY
I discovered recently in one of her diaries
that my father was one of her old friends...
According to the diary the name is
Ripper...

· Emily looks carefully at Giles.

EMILY
You’re Ripper… aren't you?

· Julia attacks Giles and Emily. Seth runs in.

JULIA
Who the hell are you?

SETH
[Voice-Over]
I'm Seth. I'm a reporter... for the Echo...

· Giles, Emily and Seth face off against Julia.

· Seth prints out a report.

GILES
[Voice-Over]
I just don't want my name mentioned all
over the place. I came here for peace
and quiet.


TEASER

Exterior, Train Station, Plaform, Bath, Night
The sound of thunder. Rain pours down all over the dark streets in the distance. Several people try to keep dry under the shelter covering the station. A train pulls up with a screech. After several seconds it comes to a halt.

The doors of the train open with a hiss. A YOUNG MAN steps onto the platform and looks around.


Exterior, Train Station, Bath, Night
The rain beats heavily on the streets. The YOUNG MAN walks out from the station and looks around. He looks completely lost as he stares one way then the other.

A MAN walks passed, clutching an umbrella against the wind. He's fighting a losing battle. His probably once tailored suit is drenched all the way through.

YOUNG MAN
Excuse me...

The MAN turns around.

MAN
Yes?

YOUNG MAN
I'm, uh, new here. I was wondering if
you could help me out with something.

MAN
Of course.

YOUNG MAN
I'm looking for an address. Here.

He pulls out a small, tattered piece of paper from his pocket and shows it to the MAN.

MAN
Oh yes. I know it.

The YOUNG MAN flashes a grin.

YOUNG MAN
Excellent.

The YOUNG MAN leans in closer to hear the directions as we CUT TO:


Interior, Giles' Flat, Living Room, Late Morning
Light comes from between the curtains. EMILY is sleeping on the sofa. She groans a little before opening her eyes slowly.

EMILY
Uh...

She sits up a little and looks around. She rubs her eyes which are a little blurry and looks confused.

GILES
[O.S.]
Ah, you're up.

EMILY looks around to see GILES standing in the doorway from the kitchen with a tray.

GILES
(continued)
I was beginning to think you'd sleep all
day. Tea?

GILES places the tray down on the table in the centre of the room. It almost buckles under the weight. GILES smiles a little.

GILES
(continued)
I really do need to get this repaired.

EMILY nods vaguely as GILES balances the tray carefully on the table. He looks up at her as he takes the teapot in his hand.

EMILY
Um. Yeah. Thanks.

GILES pours it into one of the cups.

GILES
How are you feeling this morning?

EMILY
Not too bad, I guess.

EMILY looks around the room carefully.

GILES
You fell asleep around three. I thought it
would be better if you stayed here.

GILES hands EMILY the cup.

EMILY
Thanks.

There's an uncomfortable silence.

GILES
It was nice to catch up with everything.
I really do miss your mother...

EMILY
[sadly]
So do I.

GILES moves over to EMILY and puts his arm around her.

GILES
I really want to spend more time with
you, Emily. If I'd known... before... about
you... I would have...

EMILY
It's okay. I know.

GILES
Then maybe we could have a little
more time before you return to
Cambridge.

EMILY
O-of course.

EMILY sips her tea. She looks towards the door. GILES notices straight away.

GILES
You want to go?

EMILY
I...

GILES
It's alright, you know. We had a late night.

EMILY
Well, I really should get back to my hotel...
Catch up on my sleep.

GILES
Of course, of course.

EMILY gets to her feet. GILES stands up too and opens the door for EMILY. She leaves quickly.

EMILY
I'll call you.

GILES watches her go then closes the door. He sighs.

GILES
That's what they always say.
