Washington is being very foolish! Their owner tried to buy a championship a few years ago and it was a disaster. They will have to cut half the team next year or the year after to get under the cap,the same way they had to do it two years ago.
And just the opposit as you said, this years draft is supposed to be the best in years for wide receivers.Teams should be able to pick up a starting, fast wide receiver in the 2nd or even 3rd round.
Yes we do need a couple free agents to fill a few spots but if we were being crazy like Washington then Donahue should be fired!!! Many other free agents will be available after June 1st and the price of some others who are available now is coming down so wait and see who we sign before you panic.
Much of our money has been wisely used to keep our own free agents and we will do more of that in the future by signing our guys to new long term contracts instead of bringing in other teams free agents and over paying. Donahue said weeks ago that the Niners will not be BIG players in free agency but we may pick up a few key guys before training camp so calm down.
And the reports out of Canada that I read said that the wide receiver we signed was one of the best in the league and very speedy. His team very much wanted to keep him but he had it in his contract that he could leave if he got an offer from the NFL. Apparently after two years of valuble experience actually playing the pro game in Canada he has opened up some eyes. We may be glad that those eyes belonged to the Niners scouts if he comes in and looks good in camp. We shall see. TIM
