What fandoms are you thinking of? From what I've seen, once a fandom
is splintered it is unlikely that it integrates into *one* centralized
archive. I have yet to see that an archive gets to be *the*
centralized archive after the fandom has existed for a while with
multiple archives. For example the Leviathan archive (a Farscape
archive though its creation doesn't relate in any way to ff.net)
certainly is used and stuff gets archived there, and it made some
headway into collecting scattered stuff, but it certainly hasn't
become a "central archive" in the sense that everybody would archive
there, and not at one of the multiple other archives, the boards, etc

I don't know what you call "successful," but Buffy used to be almost
totally ff.net (which was pretty hideous) and now I'm finding as much as
I want at http://archive.shriftweb.org/

It's got over 1000 stories, and includes most of the authors who turn up
on all the rec lists
