John stood outside the doorway, feeling hurt at being refused once again, yet he wondered why he tried. He hurt inside his head, and his heart, and he was worried about her. He didn't know what to do. He wasn't used to being put out like this, and for once, he really cared whether he was or wasn't. Finally, in a choked voice he calls back, "Fine. I'm leaving." but the words weren't angry, simply stating the truth. He walked away, down the hall, towards his own room.
