It is by invisible hands that we are bent and tortured worst. So these would be the forces that are interfering and shaping the pawns that are the Scoobies. TPTB, both good and evil? Now if you are referring to TPTB, does this mean that they are the ones who made the crossover (or potentially the same person in different guises).
So the same thing that gave Cordy her demoness in Birthday was the one who blasted Spike with a soul in Grave. Both scenes look pretty similar.
And the invisible hands are the larger forces which the Scoobies have little or no control over.
