Ok..why would Xander decide to be vamped? What if he was motivated by guilt..HE is the person responsible for rebuilding the high school, right? And therefore setting this whole thing off. Maybe he thinks this is his chance to fix it and through his lack of self knowledge will believe he can control the demon within..That's pretty tragic to me and a good motivation if he is driven by guilt.

Also why would he think vamping was the only option..well prophecy, I think. And maybe with Spike mentally awol and Angel turned all Angelus, Xander will think it is up to him to come to the rescue (very knightly). If there is no tame vampire I'm sure he would decide to become one, particularly if he feels guilty about creating the problem in the first place.

Ultimate tragedy if in being vamped he causes FAR more problems than if he hadn't.
