Subject: His withdrawl had nothing to do with not caring - he doubted there would ever be a day in his life when he didn't love Lacey, but it was more to protect himself. He was more than ready to slink away and lick his wounds and she was rubbing salt in them with her words. He stiffened a bit when she approached for the kiss, but endured it, his hand resting in hers limply until she finally let it go. He met her eyes for one moment, relaying nothing, and nodded a bit at her.

She didn;t know how she had expected him to react, but he seemed almost robotic, withdrawn- and it just made her feel all the more guilty.
