Subject: Infringing on civil liberties.. or whatever the term is

Weird, but my first thought after I heard Al-Qaeda were probably behind the bombings in London was not for the victims or even the families of the victims.... strangly, it was for all the peaceful muslims living in the UK who are absolutley in for a torrid time--- revenge attacks etc etc.

Ive been trying to undestand how Islamic terrorist organisations like Al-Qauda actually operate

I remember reading once that "cells" just sit quietly, going about their daily lives for years, even decades, before they commit these attrocities

What I want to know is.... do these cells just make their own minds up what to do, or do they get orders from clerics etc

My undestanding of the Islamic faith leads me to believe these cells cant do shit without being told. Also, my understanding is that Muslims are a very tight nit religion, and all, or some of, the top clerics will be aware of who exactly has carried out these attrocities in London

I just cant bring myself to believe that these top clerics do not know anything about this.

I say

If thats how the Islamic faith works

Then round up every cleric in the country, stick them in a room, and refuse to let them out until they hand over those responsible for this

yes, they are innocent.... yes, they probably think the way non-muslims think and know this was barbaric...... but is doesnt stop them coming forward and telling the authorities who did this

Maybe they believe it would be beytraying their faith if they handed over who did this... who knows

I say... I absolutly do not care........ innocent people have been blown to bits..... rounding up a few clerics and scaring em into revealing who was behind this is a small price to pay.

I know they innocent... but also think they would not assist the authorities because of their religious beliefs if they do know something

tough....

Hand over the bad guys Clerics........

Its about time the peace loving Britsh Muslim Clerics came forward and fought this war on terror with us, not sit back on their asses....

Imagine, if 1 cleric came forward and pointed to who was respoinsible

I would imagine it would save much of the British Muslim population alot of heart ache.

And it may ever restore some of the faith between religious factions.

In the space of less thsn a minute, reducing racism in the UK has been put back years

I believe Clerics could claw a huge chunk of that back if they act accordingly

I wonder how many people out there have the guts to back away from public opinion and venture into the land of reality in which they admit that it just might be possible that their own countries are likely responsible for domestic terrorist attacks. It's far beyond time to stop blindly fixating on a stereotypical Islamic terrorist-type every time a bomb goes off somewhere, and instead look to our own governments as the perpetrators of these murderous incidents. Did anyone notice the lightning speed at which Blair pinned the London bombings on Al-Qaeda? Sounds vaguely Bush-on 9/11-like...

We cannot fight terrorism until we get to the root of its motivation. No amount of bloodshed, foreign or domestic, will solve anything until the source of the rage against the U.S. is extinguished. This can be done only with a fundamental change in policy, not with more warfare.

After the bombing itself the major newstory on CNN and local papers was "Enough is enough", as quoted by a widening circle of Moslem clerics. It was a welcome paradigm shift in reporting and, even more hopefully, in the mindset underlying it.

However, I also heard Moslems saying, "I shouldn't have to apologize for my religion because its been hijacked by murderers seeking to expoit it".

One went on to state, "the U.S. government didn't round up Christian leaders when Randall Terry and his toadies made countless terrorist threats against doctors and murdered one in Buffalo, NY in the name of their Christian G-d; nor when Eric Rudolph launched a murderous campaign of bombings (a nightclub, health clinics & the Olympics) to enforce his twisted Christian beliefs. Why should my government start depriving equal rights to its citizens with me and my family merely because our religion is the minority? If anything, our Constitution should grant us extra protections to stop the majority from turning into a persecuting mob mentality."

It was a fascinating discussion.

If I was a Muslim leader, I would have no problem with being locked in a room for a bit if it helped bring these ppl to justice

It is hard to know who knew what about the bombers before the event. It's sounding like even their families were taken by surprise. It must be very chilling to think that the next door neighbour and some of his buddies just took a trip to London one day to perpetrate this. It's hard to grasp that these young men could be so filled with hatred for their own country, even if they were pushed in that direction by an as yet unnamed mastermind.
