I wonder how many people out there have the guts to back away from public opinion and venture into the land of reality in which they admit that it just might be possible that their own countries are likely responsible for domestic terrorist attacks. It's far beyond time to stop blindly fixating on a stereotypical Islamic terrorist-type every time a bomb goes off somewhere, and instead look to our own governments as the perpetrators of these murderous incidents. Did anyone notice the lightning speed at which Blair pinned the London bombings on Al-Qaeda? Sounds vaguely Bush-on 9/11-like...

We cannot fight terrorism until we get to the root of its motivation. No amount of bloodshed, foreign or domestic, will solve anything until the source of the rage against the U.S. is extinguished. This can be done only with a fundamental change in policy, not with more warfare.

After the bombing itself the major newstory on CNN and local papers was "Enough is enough", as quoted by a widening circle of Moslem clerics. It was a welcome paradigm shift in reporting and, even more hopefully, in the mindset underlying it.

However, I also heard Moslems saying, "I shouldn't have to apologize for my religion because its been hijacked by murderers seeking to expoit it".

One went on to state, "the U.S. government didn't round up Christian leaders when Randall Terry and his toadies made countless terrorist threats against doctors and murdered one in Buffalo, NY in the name of their Christian G-d; nor when Eric Rudolph launched a murderous campaign of bombings (a nightclub, health clinics & the Olympics) to enforce his twisted Christian beliefs. Why should my government start depriving equal rights to its citizens with me and my family merely because our religion is the minority? If anything, our Constitution should grant us extra protections to stop the majority from turning into a persecuting mob mentality."

It was a fascinating discussion.
