Post 338 A: John "of Eredy/Eridy" Alexander
First some different theories, in Post 337 A: I had stated that Archibald Alexander, born 1708 was born in Ireland. He may have been born in Scotland for some works say he "removed to Ireland with his father, William Alexander."
I have discovered incorrect statements of supposed facts in the work,
'MARYLAND HERALDIC FAMILIES' pg. 60-61. It States that Sir William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling had a younger brother Thomas, born in 1630. This is from who many of the Maryland branch of Alexander's claim descent and also claim to be the most direct descent from Sir William. That seems very odd to me since Sir William was born in 1567. So you're telling me he, Sir William, was 63 years old when his younger brother was born! That's when bullshotometer starts pinging like mad. His, Sir William's, father was born in 1540. So his father was 90 years old when a son was born to him? Come on now!
There are also those try to make John "of Eredy" Alexander a younger brother or nephew of Sir William. John was born in 1587. Sir William, as I stated, was born in 1567, some twenty years earlier. Sound more like a father and son situation to me.
But they say Sir William's son John died about a year before him. Sir William died about 1639 or 1640. But wait, Sir William had a son, Anthony, that nobody ever seems to speak of who died in 1637 or 1638. Could they be confusing the death of Anthony for the death of John?
That information is found of page 74 in the archives of Clan Donald:

In the text of "Memorials of the Earl of Sterling and the house of Alexander", on Chapter XXVII and page 87 it states Robert Alexander, probably a son of John Alexander of Eredy, had a son, Joseph. Joseph had two son James and Thomas. The remains of James rest in the churchyard of Dromore, county Tyrone "where An alter tombstone to his memory displays the armorial escutcheon of the House of Menstry." This is the line of the Barons of Menstrie or Menstry which is the bloodline associated with the descent of Sir William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling, Viscount of Canada, Lord of Tullibody, and Baronet of Nova Scotia.
In Patricia Arnold's book: 'ALEXANDER FAMILY IN EUROPE' Archibald Alexander, husband of Elizabeth MacKay/McKay is written as "Archibald Alexander, Baron of Menstrie."
That all seems to me to be some very compelling evidence.
That's all I have time for tonight. On Genealogy, good luck and good hunting.
