Thank you for your response! Very interesting on the history you provided; and I knew that not everyone today who consider themselves "Jewish" actually descend from the Tribe of Judah... they may be from one of the Twelve Tribes, and/or are Hebrew or Semitic in some way.

I think I have narrowed down which family line the 2% "European Jew" came from on my autosomal DNA test. Out of the almost 600 distant cousin Ancestry.com has listed for me as being related, at least 1/4 of them show up with traces of this ethnic group, nearly all of them being connected to me via my mother's family. Both her parents (my maternal grandparents) were distantly related to each other through a Barnes line (Ireland) - grandpa was actually a third cousin to grandma's dad. Mother and I descend from two sons of Brinsley Barnes and his wife, Elizabeth Lindley. This would account for why my results showed up "2%" instead of just a trace. I do not know if this comes from a combination of both Brinsley and Elizabeth, or, if just from one of them. But considering the fact that they belonged to the Quaker community, it is entirely possible they (or one of them) decided to leave their Jewish past and assimilate directly into the Anglo-Saxon/Germanic culture.
