Yes, much of my experience has come from books and professors who read books, not to mention the countless hours of research and independent study I did. I think this makes me far more educated on the subject of economics that most people.

Okay, I've never held a government office. How many of those people know diddly squat about economics anyway? I grew up blocks away from our state capital. My mother is a lobbyist and I spent hours a week watching her debate in hearings. On top of that, I was in the visitors gallery when important Senate and House bills were on the floor. It was my daily routine: Get out of school and go to the capital.

Anyway, growing up around the government, I would expect people in high offices to have earned their MPA to be there. Instead, during the John Ashcroft years as governor, I saw many people appointed to their positions because they helped or funded his campaign. Do these people deserve to be there? The father of one of my friends was appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court by John Ashcroft. Funny thing is, he was on the Supreme Court, but he had never even practiced law. It was his first year out of law school. Was this man an appropriate pick for the Supreme Court? The same thing happend in the Department of Economic Development. One of Ashcroft's friends was appointed a high position. The appointee did not have a degree of any sort in economics. He had no business being there, yet he was making decisions affecting the state economy.

So, you think reading books doesn't make me qualified to apply economic theoies in the real world. I think I'm a far better candidate than some of the people that hold these positions that have never touched more than an introductory economics book.

I will also briefly discuss your gripe about supporting all of the lazy people in this world. Laziness has nothing to do with it. Many people simply do not get the opportunity to receive good education and find employment. Should we just say the hell with them and leave them on the street? I would like to hear your opinion if you lost eveything you had and were forced to go on welfare, but the program simply did not exist. And please, when you grow older, send back your Social Security check because you don't beleive beleive others shouldn't have to support people who didn't adequately save for their futures.

What about all of those hard working people who labor for minimum wage? These types of jobs are for people who didn't have the resourses to go to college. They are not lazy. They are hard workers. Still, they need help from the rest of us because minimum wage isn't enough to buy them food, clothing, and shelter. Needless to say, they aren't thinking about saving for their future when they don't have money to save now.

Like I said, get rid of welfare and SS, but don't complain when you find yourself needing that assistance.
