I wanted to post my feelings but Michael sums up pretty much my origins as well as my view of history and the feelings that are evoked by the practice of "Christianity". I too had been raised Catholic and while I know much good has been done by the church, as much if not more harm has also been done in the name of the church and/or Christianity. The only thing I can add to this discussion is that it is so easy to be here in 2004 and decry atrocities and all that we can so clearly see as wrong. But I often wonder if I would have this same, clear vision if I were living at the time they occurred. I want to tell myself yes, that my view of the world and the validity of all people and beliefs would have been my believe system then as it is now. But to have lived then would have been to be raised in different times with different views. Yes, this is an exercise in futility as I did not live then, but just wondering "what if..."
