I personally think every person has their own choice for which photographer works best with their own child. If you are asking which ones have the quality to win at Nationals, it would depend on what type of Nationals you are doing. At big southern Nationals, Troy and Michael and the Power Company probably have more winners, but Toni Overby, Donna Mallard, Jon Bonfonti, and several others also have good quality and win on the National level.

Personally, I think Troy and Michael photos are beautiful and seem to win a lot. I also love Donna Mallard photos, I think her black and whites are beautiful and she's very reasonably priced.

A good pic does not always have to be retouched. If you compete in southern pageants, it probably should be. I would be more concerned about the actual pic. Just because you have good quality photos doesn't necessarily make it a good photo. That is part of it, but also.....is your child photogenic. I had T&M photos also and to me, I thought my child looked beautiful, but once I started comparing them to other ones that were winning, I could see that she lacked personality or sparkle. The photographer can't give that to her, it has to come from within. She is not a photogenic child even though she is very pretty, so I have to really work to get a competetive photo. I hope to just keep up. If she wins, it is a bonus.

Personally, I would have them retouched. Even if you don't like digital, 9 out of 10 times a digital photo will be beat an unretouched photo. It's sad that it's that way but a digital just looks better because it's a "perfect" photo.

Alot of what people think is digital is actually hand retouched on the negative and not actually digital at all. It looks more natural than the digital.

A lot of the choice of photographers depends on your child and their "type". My daughter is a preteen with a very natural but elegant look so we went with Donna Mallard. My daughter's pics are elegant yet somewhat sophisticated and they win virtually all of the time because they look just like what my child projects when she is onstage. In fact, she does even better in beauty when photogenic is judged first because she looks just like the pics. So my advice is to pick a photographer (any of the ones listed are good) who takes the type of picture that "looks" like your child.
