Was Last evening. Lucky me, Darling husband surprized me with two maple trees for our frount yard! And of course they "must" be planted right away. I choose where they go.
Fine, I though lets do this up specail. Everyone in my home has to participate in the planting somehow. When it was ds12's turn to dig a little, he said he needed help after two shovel full...dd6 is who he had help. LOL. That was soo cute seeing them both holding the handle and manuvering it. Then she had a turn by herself ( hey a handful of earth on two shovel "fulls"...is help!). While she waited on others to finish the job, she got the huge responsibity of holding the cup of water. (cup of "blessings water" as we called it). Check to see it's deep enough...and then each took a handful of earth to put into the hole, with a tiny blessing, add a bit of water....Put the tree in..and fill it in....cover the soil with stones (about 3").
Next gather in a circle, do our little thing...and Dd6 gets to give the tree the "blessings water". Onto next tree! LOL
Anyways, It was better than what I type this am...What is cool is the participation and everyone played a role in the planting. To each their own style/words! The varity was great (as it is at this site!). Used a little earth magic, a little water magic, a little stone magic. Really awesome.
Oh yeh, and when I told dd6 that the water is for the tree to drink, I wish you could have seen her looking into the cup and then at the tree's branches...in deep contemplation of a tree drinking from the cup!
Oh and Lets not forget the bystandar accross the street! He was a bit curious at first, but then after about 5 mins had no problem comming closer to look on. (stayed on the other side of the street though, so as not to interfear.) When I first seen him over there...he looke a bit stressed, but after all that, he definatly had a big grin and body language was better as he locked up that storage unit and went on his way. What a difference a small act can make, hu?
Also since it was dark out, a couple kids heading home paused to wach a moment. One asked the other what we were doin and the other boy answered "Oh, they're just blessing the trees as they plant them." as a matter of fact, like it's old hat and he sees it all the time. :) Cool.

Ps. Planning on another planting in the back yard another day.
