In reply to: Lavenderstar 's message, "Could anyone help me out with a weight loss spell?" on 14:10:15 05/10/04 Mon

It is coming up on 2 years since I weighed over 80 lbs more than I do now. We have a sister site to this one which is called "Wiccan Weightloss Support" (link is on our links page). I started it quite a number of years back and then Sapphire Mist asked me to revive it. I did but still didn't make any progress of my own. Then two years ago this coming end of June I started to get serious with my own efforts. The only difference this time compared to all my other failed attempts is that this time i just didn't quit. When I got off track I forgave myself and just kept going, when the scale jumped up for no logical reason, I cried and railed at the universe, but I kept at it. I know a few weightloss spells and I keep meaning to upload them over at the WL site, but I did not use them myself. What I did use was intense, continual, focused visualization. I added written and visual things to reinforce that. I kept a food journal (I am like on my 5th one!) and there were very few days in the last almost 2 years I have not recorded everything that went in my mouth as well as other factors like my cycle, emotions/stress and what excercise I did if any, and how long, what time of day, etc. I learned a lot about what makes me want to take care of myself as opposed to what leads me make bad choices with food or excercise. I identified triggers to binging, as well as being able to clearly see trends and influences for pro or con.

The visualization has been (and continually is) accompanied by words that I say to myself in my head and when I can, outloud. The essense of any spellwork is focus, intent, visualization, action, sometimes words of power, and followup in the mundane realm. So for me, this spell is one of the biggest I have ever undertaken and I am still working it. I didn't get so fat overnight, and I didn't expect to get back to being in good health and shape overnight either. Honestly I didn't expect to still be struggling with the last 10 to 15 lbs 2 years later....but I am OK with it, and forgiving/patient with myself and the process. It took me a lot longer to connect with the love of my life (another huge magickal effort) than I ever wanted also...but of course it was worth the wait and I would do it all again to connect with Spell Weever even if I had known from the get-go how long it would take! So I had to tell myself that no matter how long this return to my health takes it is worth it all, and certainly silly to not continue with the journey just because I didn't reach my destination sooner.

The food journal is like a BOS in regards to this magickal undertaking. I don't just wrtie about what is, but about what I WILL to have be. Remember the witch's pyramid? "To Will, to Know, to Dare, and to be silent"? Applying that to this undertaking, you must first will your body to be what you desire, next learn all you can about how to make that happen in the mundane, then dare to apply that knowledge, daily, weekly, minute by minute....and lastly, share your intent only with those who are unconditionaly supportive, and keep your weightloss mission to yourself in regards to people who will not infuse your efforts with their support. Applying these principles has been very helpful to me. Keep in mind that any WOP should always be written, said, and thought of in the present tense, not as "I want..." or "I hope...", or "I will be..." You write, think and speak about your goals in the present tense to make the magick. You say and write and think things like, "I truly enjoy foods that are healthy and good for me. I do not desire chocolate more than I desire to be at my best." Stuff like that. And even further; "I am slim and fit and healthy. I look my best and have a healthy glow and unlimited energy!"

Now, on the mundane side of things and in regards to learning all you can on the subject:

Start writing everything down that you eat and how much and when and also when and how much you excercise. Look for things like, "am I getting ENOUGH calories from healthy food to support my activities?" Most of us do not ask ourselves this question. We assume that we need to eat less in order to lose weight. But this is not so. If you are not feeding your body what it needs you will have strong cravings, and end up eating too many junk calories. Instead, a well-planned and thought out nutritional intake will ensure you will get enough calories and balanced nutrition so that cravings are minimized and controllable and so that you make conscious choices as to what goes into your body. Now getting enough of the healthy fats is the modern womans' biggest mistake. Skip the animal fats and get a samll amount of fat every meal and every day from sources like olive oil, flax seed and flax seed oil, omega-rich fish like salmon, avacadoes and raw nuts. You don't need a lot...but you absolutely need these. If you don't like salmon or avacodos or whatever get a supplement. There are many available now. The next biggest sabateur is white sugar and white flour. If you can eliminate these from your diet you will be amazed at how the cravings vanish. I also have a problem with salt and cravings. I am suspicious of yeast in breads for myself as well. I do better without it. I eat dark chocolate, really high quality (not made with wax) and very small amounts. I don't even need it every week, let alone every day. Try to get your nutrition from food closest to its natural state as possible, and avoid the processed or overcooked stuff. Forget this whole no-carb trend. If you eliminate all carbs you will get sick. Just really really limit starchy carbs when trying to lose weight...be really choosy about the few you eat, make them whole-grain or natural like shredded wheat'n'bran, oatmeal (not the instant stuff) or brown rice or a small red potatoe. The carbs you want plenty of are the leafy greens and non-starchy ones and at LEAST two natural fruits a day.

If you are working out as much as you say you are my guess is that you are not eating enough of the healthy foods and your basically so hungry you are making bad choices cause you are ravenous! Make feeding yourself the good stuff a priority, lots of lean protein, at least a tsp. of healthy fat per meal (not more than 2 Tbs. a day), lots of non-starchy veggies and 2 to 5 servings fresh fruit, low-fat dairy, etc. I also drink green tea and take a lot of various supplements. the supplement I think is amazing for it's help with cravings is 5-HTP. I take it morning and with supper.

Now since you say your clothes don't fit, I would say you know you have gained unhealthy lbs. But truly muscle does weigh more than fat, so guaging your results by your clothes or by measurements is more valuable than the numbers on the scale. I am smaller than I was when I weighed 5 lbs less since I have been lifting weights and doing strength training excercises....and actually quite a bit smaller....enough to fit in stuff that wouldn't fit by several inches a few months ago. very interesting.

Lastly, crash dieting is not worth the price you will pay health-wise. It is very dangerous and you will hurt your health and even sabatage your goals. Just re-do your whole nutritional intake. It can be a pain to prepare fresh foods and take them with you, and plan ahead, etc. Just tell yourself you are worth it and think of it as the prep in doing the magick.

No one has posted on the froum in quite a while over at the weightloss site... :( If you want to post there I will too and keep you company and lend my support.

hugs,
Dreemy
